Model looks brilliant, sounds could do with a little improvement but I'll wait until the eventual preview stream before passing judgment on those. Really great to finally see a turbostar in tsw.
It does look amazing, I even like the detail of scuff on the speedo, but I agree sounds could be better but we will have to wait and see near the release date for more. And it's just nice seeing a 170 in TSW now
The sounds are horrible. Max throttle and its got not even a little bit of a roar. The rubber between the doors is way too thick, the gangway between the coaches is way too big.
Just off to run the AP 170 on Wherry Lines in TSC as a comparison. But got to say that sounds a bit grim. Obviously going to be a bit muted in the cab, but these are still Sprinter type units that make a fair bit of noise when you put it in Notch 7. H'mmm indeed. The AP version in TSC sounds very good. Quite subdued in the cab as to be expected and no saloon view (surprisingly) but you have that lovely smooth purr of the later build Sprinters. So with the caveat the Rivet effort is WIP, looks like a dud. Really don't know why DTG continue to indulge their low grade output. Edit: Not sure who did the 170 in TSC Fife Circle, sounds louder and slightly different to Wherry Lines but way better than the Rivet demo still.
The only issue the 170's in TSC suffer from is the "speed lock" syndrome, when each intermediate throttle notch acts as a cruise control, so if you throttle back, you tend to decelerate rapidly even going downhill! Hopefully something the TSW version will avoid. Heading out over the Forth Bridge in the TSC version, I mean route wise this is almost a must have. Just if only it hadn't been Rivet doing it. Well I guess the consolation is they didn't attempt the Class 68 and make a hash of that!
for a first look preview it looks really nice the only thing letting it down for me is the sounds BUT it is still a WIP so lets see how it develops.
The 158 could be the redeeming feature assuming the 170 is botched and it will sub for all the services. But at full price that will mean paying £42 for the complete package to get a decent sounding train, so definitely one for sale or bundle time.
It looks amazing, as all rivet locos do. Sounds are passable, but would be nice to see if it gets more oomph. Again, as it's just a preview and clearly not the finished product, I'm keeping my opinion open and flexible
Moving on from sounds, the other unknown is physics. Nothing to be gleaned from the short section of the unit pulling away in that clip, but based on their previous efforts - particularly the 150 which was over powered then got over nerfed - need to know a bit more on that aspect. Think at best this is going to be a route where the early adopters can provide the feedback and I’ll wait and see. Firing up the TSC version last night, occurred to me I still have many hours worth of scenarios to complete so what’s the rush to buy another route which duplicates what we already have (unless on console).
Modelled very well, but it sounds absolutely horrendous. Rivet need to stick to route building because they clearly can't create quality trains, at least for UK content.
Actually, it's their 3D rolling stock modeling which is their strong suit; their trains look brilliant. It's physics and audio they have issues with. Their route building ain't all that.
They can also come up with interesting scenarios but all for nought if the train sounds are LOVE. I mean the exterior and interior of the 170 look really good, obviously many hours gone into that. But they really need to fire the sound guy and get someone in who knows what they’re doing.
Problem with Rivet Games is that they just do not seem to be interested in train sounds, to them they just don't understand the fact that it is frustrating to hear a train that sounds like a vacuum cleaner. People are not buying their routes for the badly made rolling stock but simply because the routes happen to be scenic and quite interesting.
I was probably giving them too much credit going down the bus garage or recording lorries going up and down the High Street. Come to think of it, the 484 on IOW 2022 does sound a bit like our Henry...
Only issue I seem to have is the sounds sound a bit rubbish. But other than that it’s one of my favourite units to drive, always liked a Turbostar.
