So dtg's parent company is bringing out a new game called roadcraft. From what I've seen it looks quite good. It's kinda looks like snowrunner but with better graphics, physics etc. I'm actually looking forward to this one, well I did look forward to snowrunner and quite enjoyed it, until it got a bit boring with the same maps and tasks recycled 100 times over.
Quite looking forward to it, one of the more boring aspects of Snowrunner was your project being magically completed as soon as you drop off. Overall the series is good fun, especially in co-op, so will be grabbing this on release.
Yeah definitely gonna be a day one purchase for me. My biggest gripe with snowrunner was the crane controls. I heard someone say on a demo video they are a lot better. It looks to me there's still some tasks are magically completed when dropping off cargo. Looking at it though, they have definitely took some of the feedback from snowrunner onboard. Like being able to build temporary bridges and crane controls etc.
I’m curious about it. I loved Mudrunner but can’t get into Snowrunner - too much pointless busywork and Mudrunner physics felt more rewarding to me, don’t know if they were more or less accurate.
I never played mudrunner, I don't know what the physics were like. I have heard a lot of people say they preferred mudrunner over snowrunner though. I remember the early days of snowrunner and it was non stop winching. I've heard the physics in roadcraft are pretty rewarding. I guess we will find out in May.
I'll have the opportunity to get revenge on all the stumps that destroyed my trucks in the snowrunner.
Will have to follow this one. I've got nearly 400 hours logged in Snowrunner, according to Steam, and it is a great game but even though I bought the season packs I only scratched the surface of the areas and some I haven't touched at all. Partly because it gets a bit grindy and partly because a lot of the maps are similar and don't really look much like the regions they are trying to represent. I see there is a demo so grabbed that for a looksee.
This really looks good. One of the biggest irritations of Snowrunner was that the terrain resets each time you load back into the save game. Also you couldn’t repair particularly nasty stretches of road where dips and mud would tip your vehicle (looking at you, Russia map). Looks like changes you make here will persist. Only caveat I have is whether this will run on my potato PC. Well Snowrunner does fine, so fingers crossed. DTG are going to need to come up with something really special for TSW to compete with this!
I found a site supposedly having the specs, input my system and well above the minimum. Probably need to cap at 30 FPS and turn down shadows etc. but looking okay. Anyhow, the demo should give an idea and doubtless there will be further optimisation before release.
Should be ok then. I had a play of the demo and it seems pretty much the same as snowrunner. It kept crashing to desktop for me though.
Just spotted if you already own Snowrunner, scroll down and you will find a bundle option which gives you a loyalty discount so the game costs £26.24 rather than £35. Pre-ordered!
Unfortunately I got snowrunner through epic games. And intend to buy the game through steam this time.
Definitely try the demo before ordering. I just did and my PC could barely run it. On start up got a warning about insufficient video memory (4Gb) and even after turning settings down, it was just a < 5 FPS jerkofest. Looks like it will have to wait until I get some better hardware; what's daft is Snowrunner runs really smooth!
That's a bit of a bummer. I managed to get the game to stop crashing with a couple of file verifications. Spent a few hours on it, clearing forests, laying cables and building roads. One thing that did surprise me is the ability to steam roll a newly layed Road to perfection. A lot like snow runner. I got a feeling it may be a bit repetitive. But it's only a demo.
I have got a 4080, 12th gen i5 and 32gb ram. I was averaging 80fps with ultra settings. Which isn't the best I would say. Although it is only a demo.
Thanks for that. Well Roadcraft will have to wait for my hoped for PC upgrade later in the year. I notice too they have now put 6Gb of VRam as the minimum spec on Steam. How are consoles going to cope with this I wonder?
8th gen just meets the minimum requirements I think. 9th gen has more than enough memory. If I remember right from the forums with snowrunner. It won't look very nice on 8th gen. With the draw distance limited and low res textures etc.
I did notice dlss in the settings. I would imagine a rtx 30 series or higher would manage it with dlss enabled.
Still think there is something very wrong with the optimisation when even on the menu screens the mouse stuck and jerked across. Don’t need an extra 2Gb of VRAM for that, surely?! Sounds like another game where the devs have tried to push workload off the CPU and system RAM onto the GPU, even basic housekeeping functions.
There is a few reports online of issues with it. I would imagine as its a demo, it's not finished/optimised. It kept freezing and crashing for me at first, I had to do a steam file verification 3 times to stop it.
Having been hooked on this for several hours now, this is a must have for anyone that's played snowrunner. It is snowrunner basically. But now you can remove the forests that stood in your way, build asphalt roads on the crappy mud pits that you was forever getting stuck in, say goodbye to the agony that once was! Tsw is definitely gonna be shelved for a while for this.
