Reason for this route is as follows. Two hourly trains from Liverpool to WiganNW which stop at all stations One hourly limited stop Liverpool to Blackpool North which becomes an all stops train after 7pm during the evening and all day Sunday, these are all Northern run trains TP Express Scottish services from Liverpool as far as Preston calling at St Helens and WiganNW Avanti London to Blackpool being picked up at Wigan calling at Preston and other stops towards Blackpool Railtours and Freight services too Diverted trains sent via Newton when the St Helens Central section is shut for engineering works
