Sounds great. I'd rather have the extra freight layers and stop passenger service at Tamien if that's the compromise needed though I'm not sure why it would be. The TSC route was already " extended " to Gilroy so DTG have plenty of reference material for that part of the route.
Mainly due to route building in TSW being more complex than TSC. With DTG also only having a short development window for each route, it's most likely they wouldn't have time to complete the route fully in the timeframes they give themselves. Sherman Hill is a good example of this.
I like the Dirty Dirt Train with UP SD59MX rebuilt locomotives or maybe an SD70M. A GP60 instead of the GP38-2 would be great to see in game on this route. The new sections with more freight action would be great to see as well. I'm still hoping to see a 1950s-70s era SP Peninsula Corridor with an SP FM H-24-66 Trainmaster, GP9, SD9 "Cadillac", and/or SDP45 (maybe a DLC). Rolling stock would include SP Bi-level Coaches, single-level coaches, and a few types of SP freight cars and at least one or two cabooses.
I'd love to see it! The Peninsula Corridor grants me a lot of nostalgia, while living abroad, as it is the rail line of home in the SF Bay Area. But with the extension, the line would run practically next to my actual backyard and through my neighborhoods.
The line is electrified, the overhead wires are energised and the new Stadler EMU's are being tested and broken in: Lots of possibilities of either backdating or 'up'dating the line, I'd like both, esp the SP era.
Those of you familiar with riding Stadler trainsets will recognise many details the generous loading gauge doesn't require curved inwards sides, which makes the trains look a bit plump and massive, but allows for spacious upper floor seating
Absolutely correct they might be able to clear the Eastern tunnels on the East Coast Electric territory however they would be required to open both doors. I wonder how would the development team make it either use itself or start making the German and swiss versions first then this one. Achievement wise needs to count towards its German and swiss and Austrian cousins basically the same dreams as itself. There has to be a way to tow the train for a scenario one of these would have required the existing MP15DC to be dual coupler equipped DAC with AAR. It's self running Baby Bullet electric territory. Existing MP36 all the way down to Southern Santa Clara County Gilroy
Please do. Peninsula Corridor is great and and extension out to Gilroy plus it's new RL locomotives would make it even better. And, yes, definitely leave the older timetables as playable options.
Note: As of today, the EMU's are now being used in Revenue service ahead of the full electrification in September.
This is a great point. The route itself could do some great additional duty for previous incarnations in addition to a 'modern day' update. I'd love the Southern Pacific-era to get it's own add on, a la 'Diesel Legends of the Great Western'. Retro routes can be great, as Blackpool and others prove.
Did some railfanning of the area yesterday, and honestly, a revision is to make a timetable based on the current one, with the EMU's in a limited role running various routes (Actually got the chance to ride one), but with the F40's still pushing out their final hours on the line. Also interesting to note, UP had a local pass by with a pair of GP60's.
However, the recovery of these units is ridiculous (positively speaking), compared to the older diesels. I saw how they leave platforms on a video... Now they really have efficient convoys! They talked about a 20% time saving/service! Not bad at all ! PS. Still strange to see a US route with OHLE, outside of NEC!! Am I wrong or do they intend to create the intercon electrfied link, to connect the two coasts? It's an old project from the 80s, if I'm not mistaken...
Came here to post that I would be highly interested in a Peninsula Corridor remaster, now that the route has been electrified. But many have long since beat me to it. I can at least contribute to the suggestions by sharing this insightful passenger video and review of the new Stadler EMUs now in service on the line.
Agreed, it would make a good remaster to the more environment conscious current CalTrain. Bring it on, DTG! The local riders and online commuties love the KISS's.
watched that exact video yesterday and I can echo that sentiment... recently, Slovakia also received its order of 4 Stadler Kiss 160 EMUs, and some time back I had a chance to ride it as passenger... looked super nice, ride was good, the train just exudes elegance ... too bad the train was in the dark, so that nice speed wasnt as "visible" (atm the max speed on upgraded track between Galanta/Nove Zamky and Bratislava is 140, sometimes 150 kph if a train needs to cut a delay, like a Vectron once did in EC) but still loved it and wishing that Slovakia orders more such units in the future... I mean, you can clearly see how I feel about them since I chose one as my profile pic
I saw that video too and by the way the channel owner is from the Netherlands therefore he has a video of the trains used on WCML South Zwolle-Groningen and Antelope Valley Line WCML Class 390 Zwolle-Groningen SNG/ Koploper Antelope Valley Line Speaking of that Caltrain Stadler KISS the 2nd version of it is a BEMU like the MBTA is planning to buy. To tell the Caltrain version from the MBTA version the flip up seats are gone for an operational 2nd door if made. Routes for the Stadler KISS BEMU versions if made are Caltrain and MBTA/Amtrak Boston-Worcester/Providence Long Distance Amtrak Boston Trenton
The new timetable Caltrain will use for post electrification, with the Mp36's handling the 4 trains to/from San Jose to Gilroy. Weekday: https://www.caltrain.com/media/33909 Weekend: https://www.caltrain.com/media/33908
Does the timetable tell passengers to transfer trains, or does that train (logically then needing to be pulled by an MP36) through run the corridor? For example looking at the 2nd page of the Southbound Schedule, Train 420 arrives at Diridon at 5:57PM, and then there is an arrow that carries over to the next service,Train 820 which is a stopping service onward to Gilroy. At present, are the MP36's still running to and from SF, or is this a transfer-necessary indicator on the schedule?
Its a cross platform transfer at San Jose, hence why its marked as such on the timetable. No CalTrain diesel trains will be running north of San Jose past the 21st.
Wow, I've been following Thom's channel for a little while now, but never knew he was originally from The Netherlands. His accent is very North American. https://youtube.fandom.com/wiki/Trains_Are_Awesome
I watch him and he did go on on one of my suggested route which would have ended up improving Hauptstrecke Rhein-Rhur Duisburg Bochum Dortmund the Hollandstrecke Duisburg Oberhausen Emmerich am Rhein Zevenaar Arnhem Utrecht Centraal.
I think that the PC would be so good with an up to date refresh. Its one of my fav maps and I really enjoy the whole thing. Lots to do and see. Free roaming on UP freight duties adds a bunch of fun too. IMHO it seems too sentimental to electrify it in the game so quickly lol.
I think one of the coolest things they could do with a remaster is have multiple timetables representing pre-electric and post-electric services. There are already two versions of the timetable (normal and with the Baby Bullet added); it'd be neat if you could select those plus the electric timetable in the remaster. And honestly, a mixed timetable, just for fun, with the Stadlers and the F40s running during the 'transition' weeks would be awesome too, like BlacknRed suggested.
I'd certainly not complain about a re-done SFJ post-electrification. SFJ was a fantastic route and the the two loco DLCs really elevated it.
but had the same "problem" as later Antelope Line - almost complete lack of safety stuff implemented, except alerter... but even then, I might give it a go today after work
That was prototypical for the time though, if I recall correctly. The screens in the locos were off in real life too (installed for future use).
so just route knowledge, I guess... but if they did the remaster or sth, and featured new Stadler KISS trains, I believe those have some safety stuff? also since the route is supposed to be a part of future highspeed corridor?
I believe it'd be worthwhile for DTG to give CalTrain a shout. They seemed like a good operator to work with, so I don't see a reason why they wouldn't help DTG out with sourcing KISS and signalling/safety system material for the route. I hadn't known of the electrification project until I watched Thom's video yesterday, and all I've been thinking about is how those Stadlers are begging to be put into the game lol. SFJ was easily my favorite route back before they switched to ToD4.
I honestly know next to nothing about US railroads, but the thought of a Peninsula Corridor update gets my vote anyway. Peninsula Corridor and Clinchfield Railroad are two of my favourite TSW routes, so a remaster woud be pretty epic!
New addition for Caltrain, apparently they have wrapped the Bi-Levels in special wraps for the South County trains (Basically the older stock used between San Jose and Gilroy)
Dovetail may get the caltrain licencing back, or they will likely release peninsula corridor with unbranded stock, and a possibly may get a bit of a upgrade (sky's, weather affects and lighting) not to mention probably some bug fixes
