As TSC doesn't have (nor ever seems likely too) a random lucky dip as does TSW, thought I would devise a system using a pack of playing cards. Actually quite sobering to discover I have well over 100 routes so have actually had to double up on the entries against each card, with a further colour draw to decide. Anyhow out of interest here's how the list looks at the start:

    TSC Route Selection Randomiser

First card drawn determines the choice of two routes.
Second card drawn, a red will be for first listed a black card for the second.
As scenarios are used up routes in the Joker list will be moved to the main list.
Any new routes initially go in the Joker list.

    SPADES

    Ace Albula Line or Arosa
    Two Allgaubahn or B&O Subdivision
Three Leipzig - Riesa - Dresden
Four Falmouth Branch or Fife Circle
Five Frankfurt to Koblenz or Frankfurt U-Bahn
Six Liverpool to Manchester or LT Heritage
Seven London to Brighton or London to Faversham HS
    Eight NEC Philly or Baltimore
    Nine Pacific Surfliner or Pegnitztalbahn
Ten South Wales Coastal or SW Southampton to Bournemouth
Jack South Western Express Reading to Exeter or Springfield Line
Queen Stevens Pass or Surselva Line
King Tadami Line or Taurus Mountains

    DIAMONDS

    Ace Bernina North or South
Two Birmingham Cross City or B&O Springfield
Three Chatham Lines or Victoria to Ramsgate
Four Glasgow Airport or Glasgow North West Suburban
    Five Glasgow Subway or GEML
Six GWML (original) or Guignang High Speed
Seven Longhai Railway or Malmesbury Branch
Eight Marias Pass or Metrpolitan Line
Nine Portsmouth Direct or Return to Maerdy
Ten Ring Bahn Berlin or Rio Grande Southern
Jack Tehachapi or The Kyle Line
Queen Riviera Line (both) or Forest Rail
King Tohuku Line or Tokyo Commuter

    CLUBS

Ace CSX Hanover Sub or Cajon Pass
Two Canadian Mountains or Clear Creek NG
Three Clinchfield RR or Cologne to Dusseldorf
Four Hamburg to Hanover or Hamburg U-Bahn
Five Hidaka Main Line or Hope Valley
Six Horseshoe Curve or Huddersfield Line
Seven Mittenwaldbahn or Shelby to Havre
Eight Mount Shasta or Munich to Augsburg
Nine Munich to Garmisch or New York to New Haven
Ten Ruhr Sieg or S25 Heart Of Berlin
    Jack Sacramento Northern or Semmering
Queen UP Wasatch or WCML South
    King Wakayama or Weardale

    HEARTS

Ace Corris Railway or Donner Pass
Two ECM London to P'boro, York to Newcastle or Newcastle to Edinburgh
Three Edinburgh to Glasgow or Engadine
Four Isle Of Wight or karawankenbahn
Five Konstanz - Viligen - Hausach
Six LGV Rhone Alps or Marseille to Avignon
Seven Netherfield Nottingham or Norddeutsche Lubeck to Kiel
Eight Norfolk Southern Coal or North London Coal
Nine North Somerset or North Wales Coast
Ten Settle to Carlisle or Sherman Hill
Jack Somerset and Dorset or South London Network
Queen Welsh Marches or West Somerset
King WCML North or WCML Over Shap

    JOKER

    West Highland South
    West Highland mallaig
    West Rhine
    Western Lines Of Scotland
    Wherry Lines
    Woodhead Electric Blue
    Woodhead Original
    Wutachtalbahn

And the first card dealt was the 10 of Hearts followed by the Jack of Hearts (great shuffle there!) so off to Settle & Carlisle we go!

Would be a whole lot easier to use something like this (there are many that do the same thing) https://wheelofnames.com/

    Is that an installable programme?

Might give it a look but there’s a certain amount of anticipation shuffling the cards!

Now I’m going to have to look that up when I’m back on the PC later.

Anyhow bringing up the S&C resulted in the next unplayed scenario being a Bossman double headed Black Five. Nice.

I think I've got about 2,000 unplayed scenarios at least.

And time after time, I'll just go leeching the Workshop until I got all high rated scenarios on my SSD.

With the distraction of TSW plus all the other games, I honestly doubt I could play all of them in what’s left of my lifetime. And there’s always something new looking to join the list.

It's a web page based programme, also the anticipation is there by the wheel rotating, give it a look it doesn't cost anything.

Problem is having to put over 100 entries in, unless you can save the list for another time. But thanks anyway.

Is that directed at me as a retort to my suggestion?
You can enter whatever text you want like route name or loco/MU class.

    hth :)

Yes you can save each list, but you're obviously not prepared to even click on the link to find out for yourself, much easier to type questions for me to answer I guess.

You can lead a horse to water and all that.

Anyway no bother it was just a suggestion.

No need to be like that - I do appreciate the suggestion and have bookmarked the site.

    Six Of Clubs
    Ten Of Hearts
Horseshoe Curve it is! (Which I probably would have skipped by otherwise).

Yes somewhere in my collection, but taking in strict order of uncompleted scenarios this one was the first 20 minute switching scenario. So that's done, will be shuffling the cards again later on after a movie!

Maybe there is an easy solution, but you can collect all your routes and even scenarios with some effort.
You can use the following simple powershell script:
    ls Content\Routes | random
It literally picks a route. You have to go and check it out. This is the essence of my weekly photo shares, I take random 4.
If you dump your pick list into a file, you can get-content filename | random to pick any line. That vertical line is a pipe indicator, each expression uses the previous output.
You can also ls > filename so that you can edit or keep the results.
One extra thing to solve is weights. It normally looks like 1-3 A, 4-7 B, 8 C, 9-22 D, and so you can 1..22 | random, then check what it is.
You can combine this with using the scenario database. Copy it, unserz, load as xml, filter tags, pick random, show its data.

Thanks triz. Something else to consider and try out.

In the meantime... Return to Maerdy popped up next so I am actually genuinely pleased with the variety shuffling and dealing the cards is throwing up. Plus by shuffling myself rather than having an AI generate the results gives a bit of hands on!

I'm just using your results as inspiration. Maerdy is a cute little gem :) (preferring Memories of Maerdy
    though).

Often, I'm just looking up technical reports inspiring me to revisit the mentioned route.

Must admit though I have cloned the scenario I started last night and replaced the battery loco with a Class 14 Teddy Bear. Just cannot seem to get the hang of not discharging the battery too quickly and it just stops!

LT Heritage! This is actually a fun way of picking something to do, maybe not even a route you would have thought to choose.

Might have to do a similar exercise for TSW rather than using the built in lucky dip, which seems to delight in giving me that daft free roam on Cane Creek or a Class 66 RHTT.

Edit: And now NEC Baltimore. Another route pretty much dormant since I bought it.
