This is a commuter route on the south-west coast of Norway between Stavanger and Egersund. The railroad also keeps going further south past Egersund and continues to the larger city of Kristiansand on the very southern part of Norway, and from there continues onwards somewhat inland from the coast and up north to the capitol of Norway, Oslo. The Jærbanen route is a commuter route which goes along the coast in hilly and mountainous areas in the southern part near Egersund before it reaches the actual Jæren area which is a larger, flat agriculture area in Norway. As it goes past Jæren and reach the northern end of the route it enters into more and more urban areas as it reaches Sandnes and later the city of Stavanger. The route has a nice blend of scenic nature as well the busy urban parts and would provide a well rounded and enjoyable ride while exploring the coast, hills, agriculture and city areas of Norway all in one route. The route takes around 1-1.5 hours to drive. With the railroad continuing on from Stavanger all the way to Oslo there is also the benefit of being able to expand the route with regional and express trains that go from Stavanger->Kristiansand->Oslo. And from Oslo there is also another express route that goes to the airport at Gardermoen (sort of like the London Commuter Gatwick Express route). Along the route there are also freight/goods trains transporting goods between Stavanger and Oslo. Some information about the Jæren route: The route itself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jæren_Line https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jæren_Commuter_Rail Video of the route (old video from 1997 though...) Operated by: Go Ahead Nordic Current locomotives: NSB Class 72 Older/previous locomotives: NSB Class 69 Map of the route (black dots on route are actual stops/stations, the grey ones are just information): (coast in the south by Egersund, then crosses over the agriculture area of Jæren itself, and then goes north into the larger city areas at Sandnes and Stavanger)
I am a train driver who works at Go-ahead in Stavanger. I am there fore able to supply detailed information about this route as well as the continued stretch to Kristiansand, which has some spectacular views and long tunnels. Please contact me via e-mail if interested. It would be nice to see this simulated.
Maybe I could check the route out in person sometime but it is quite far from Oslo. However this is an amazing route idea, would definitely love to see some norwegian routes within TSW for once.
I would like to add that in addition to type 72 (https://jernbane.net/bo/subpage.php?s=3&t=74) we current ly also operate EL18 (https://jernbane.net/bo/subpage.php?s=3&t=31) with passenger cars of type 5 ( and WLAB2 and the advanced type 73 with tilting technology. (https://jernbane.net/bo/subpage.php?s=3&t=18126) Also from the container terminal at Ganddal there are intermodal freight trains with locomotives like the old EL14 (https://jernbane.net/bo/subpage.php?s=3&t=27), the newer CE119/BR185/Bombardier traxx (https://jernbane.net/bo/subpage.php?s=3&t=599) and the switcher SKD226 (https://jernbane.net/bo/subpage.php?s=3&t=53) earlier an SKD224. Also the train workshop just outside Stavanger has a SKD220c which they still use.
Awesome suggestion! An new country to the game would be really cool & the route is looking really pretty! Ofcourse we have the problem again; license...
