A passenger line running from Zurich Hauptbahnhof to Uetliberg in Switzerland, operated as line 'S10' of the Zurich S-Bahn network. This is no ordinary commuter line, with an unusual 1,200 volt DC electrification (prior to 2022), off-centre pantographs on the trains and the incredible change from a short underground section (in Zurich) to a picturesque mountain environment as you get closer to Uetliberg. Services on this route typically run every 20 minutes, which is impressive for a mostly single-track line. Route Length - 10.3 kilometres (6.4 miles) No. of stations - 9 Maximum Gradient - 7.9% (or 1 in 13) Motive power - SZU 'Be 510' class Electric Multiple Unit Journey Time - 25 minutes (end to end) Ideal Time Period - between 2015 and 2021 (long after the original terminus at Selnau was demolished) The current Stadler-built dual-voltage EMUs replaced the old Be 4/4 motor coaches (used in tandem with 'B 220' trailer cars), which could only operate on the original 1,200 volt DC system. Those older units were retired in August 2022. There's a cab-ride video on YouTube that shows the incredible (yet short) journey from Zurich Hauptbahnhof to Uetliberg (uploaded by Railway Emotions): (Image Credit - André Knoerr, Genève / 'Fototak' on Flickr): https://www.flickr.com/photos/fototak/albums/72157628308205609
