I've been following the development of an ambitious yet promising upcoming Japanese train simulator called: 「走れ列車」, literally "Running Train".
As far as I know, it's being developed by one guy on the UE5 engine. His updates are sparce and sporadic but this is his latest YouTube update video, showcasing a JNR 115-series's (a unit I would very much love to see depicted in TSW, but it seems will be beat to it by this indie-developer) manually lapped braking system in action. The model, physics, suspension, and sound all seem to be essentially at the finish line as well and sound exactly as I know the unit to sound in real life having ridden on them often.

In the comments section, albeit in Japanese, he also replied saying generally, "The (in game) track map are pretty much done. The only things left are adjustments to the train models and to add the time table. I will work hard as to release the game before fall."

There are a few other preview videos on his channel I would recommend taking a look at. As someone who wants Japanese rail stock depicted in a sim, not just in Densha De Go, this game is definitely on my watch list. Heck, depending on if/when/how well this game turns out, it may steal a lot of my attention from TSW.
