This is one of my fav routes IRL, although I dont ride it as a passenger anymore (personal reasons ) From Wolfsthal up to Fischamend, it is pretty much a local route, though electrified, and follows the old "Vienna Tram" route that used to originate in Bratislava... I believe the speeds in those places are around 60 - 80 and 100 - 120 kmh in places After Fischamend you have Flughafen Wien (Vienna International Airport), which a bit ago received massive extension of its platforms to around 450m to serve as starting point/terminus of many double traction RailJets (once the Gotzendorf/Trautmannsdorf - Fischamend double-tracked/electrified "Rail-Link" is done in a couple years, it will be also directly accessible from Slovakia/Hungary) After that the route becomes mostly double-tracked, with nice speeds, especially around Rafinerie Schwechat... from Schwechat Bahnhof it becomes part of Wien Kernzone (Vienna Core Zone), so it becomes quite busy and not very fast atm Before entering Rennweg station, it delves into a tunnel section, and makes a turn for Wien Mitte (doesnt go through Wien Hauptbahnhof)... from there, it follows the Stammstrecke (Vienna's S-Bahn/regional core route) and terminates at Wien-Floridsdorf... some S7s have different routes, like to Laa an der Thaya and such The route between Wolfsthal and Wien-Floridsdorf is approx. 65 km long and offers nice variety, decent scenery (beautiful views of Danube near Hainburg, fields and such around smaller towns near Danube, and of course Vienna later) and also some freight, depending on which branches to industries DTG would choose to include (there are many freight-only branches around VIE, Schwechat, Rafinerie Schwechat of course has TONS of track with tanker cars, several smaller ports in Vienna connect to this route etc) Services would be like: S-Bahn/REX, served by 4744/4746 Siemens Desiro ML - S7 to VIE, S7/REX7 to Wolfsthal (vmax of those trains is 160 kmh) with possible substitution with 5020 or 5040 old S-Bahn units (vmax 120 kmh) then there is CAT, a special consist made of OBB 1016 or 1116 in CAT livery plus two Wiesel coaches, one of which is cab car, also in CAT livery (vmax due to Wiesel-s is 140 kmh) and, of course, our beloved RailJets (sometimes ComfortJets by ČD) aka 1016/1116/1216 + Siemens Viaggio coaches + cab car (2nd gen also have Vectron/Vectron 230 + coaches + Vectron-shaped cab car) - these usually go to Wien Hbf and from there to Westbahn or Sudbahn and such - once took a short ride from VIE to Wien Hbf (headed to Salzburg) and it went to Wien Hbf without stops, but never faster than 120 kmh) on the Stammstrecke, you meet all kinds of trains, including 4024/4124s and various consists with Taurus literally too many to mention, since Stammstrecke is used by all S-Bahn lines and most of regional lines of course on the Stammstrecke the speeds never exceed 80 kmh, because it is super-busy all year long, tho the speed might increase with the introduction of ETCS, who knows ... I mentioned speeds but I am not 100% sure the full speeds, cos for some years before now and for a couple from now there has always been some construction on this line, like in this video: In there, I believe there was an ongoing renewal of the tracks between Wolfsthal and Fischamend, each time a different section had been done... these days they work on all kinds of sections around Fischamend, as preparation for future Rail Link (that includes upgrades/renewals/reconstructions along the Bratislava - Kittsee - Parndorf - Bruck an der Leitha - Gotzendorf - Gramatneusiedl - Wien Hbf line as they get ready to receive trains from Slovakia and Hungary which will gain direct railway access to the airport without having to first going to the city) Lots of interesting things going on there (sorry for off topic lol) Possible alternatives: S45 (Hutteldorf to Handelskai) + S80 (Hutteldorf - Hauptbahnhof - Aspern Nord) + freight branch to oil refinery near Lobau, with Wien Hutteldorf and Wien Stadlau as hubs Westbahn (old + new) - Wien Westbahnhof - St. Polten + Wien Hauptbahnhof - Meidling - St.Polten, including the highspeed tunnels (Lainzer Tunnel and Wienerwald Tunnel, plus junctions) Wien Hbf - Wiener Neustadt - mainline (via Liesing, Modling and Baden) OR Pottendorfer Linie (via Blumental, Hennersdorf, Pottendorf and Wiener Neustadt - Caritas Nova) + Aspangbahn (Wien Hbf to Traiskirchen Aspangbahn + Traiskirchen Aspangbahn - Wiener Neustadt) Marchegger Ostbahn (Wien Hbf - Bratislava via Marchegg) or Ostbahn via Bruck an der Leitha and Kittsee to Bratislava To conclude, why this or that? Nahverkehr Ostregion with Vienna as its uber-hub is super interesting, with all kinds of traffic, and usually nice variety in speed changes... any direction DTG would choose, it usually follows the pattern like in Vienna you go up to 80, with LOTS of traffic, TONS of passengers and such, and once you get out of Kernzone, you pick up speed As for rolling stock, it is very "simple" - you need Siemens Desiro ML in CityJet livery, then 1016/1116 Taurus plus Wiesel dostos and cab car, and you are pretty much set... RailJets and other such things are optional... as for 5020, it is still used on some S-Bahn/REX services, but once the mega orders of Siemens Mireos and various Stadler stock start arriving, these will gradually disappear (tho they are still pretty nimble and have cool sound/rumble) Thx for reading
Good route! The Desiro is nice and also the Railjet! It would be interesting to have a single-track Austrian route in game, even if partial.
they pretty much used a lot of old Vienna tram line, which used to start in Bratislava somewhere in the center of the town, then go over Danube, serve the villages/towns along the southern shore of Danube and then into Vienna... I believe it used to terminate somewhere around Wien Mitte, back then Hauptzollamt or sth like that starts in Wolfsthal, goes between houses, then across the fields and is followed by a road/cycling road, then it weaves through Hainburg (Ungartor station is between houses and near a shopping center), along Danube (beautiful section)... some stations are super cool, like the one in Wildungsmauer (at the edge of a field, across the road from houses... very nice route, not very fast... I wonder what the speeds are going to be when all the construction/renewals are over, probably anywhere between 60 and 120 the section around Rafinerie Schwechat is a nice blast... I remember the Desiro going like 140-160 around it (didnt have a speed measuring app back then)... from VIE to Vienna it is mostly up to 120, S-Bahn and Stammstrecke like 80 so if they did S/REX7, personally I would love this variant... as some S7s go from VIE to Wolkersdorf (kinda mimicking S2 there) or to Mistelbach (also kinda S2-ish) I mean, if they did any S-Bahn, Stammstrecke and 1-2 lines, would be also cool... like S1 to Marchegg, S2 to Wolkersdorf (Laa an der Thaya might be too far)... those arent usually long, depends on variant, but take like 30-60mins usually, kind of the point of S-Bahn ) or if they went for sth not very fast, but scenic, then the corridor from Franz Josef Bahnhof to Tulln would be nice... has some nice stations, sights along the way, hills on one side, Danube on the other (as it follows Danube) well, I guess we will see
Bring it on and this must have access to Wien Kledering Vbf for the owners of 363 204 G6 for shunting duty Verschrub in ÖBB docs. Salzburg Rosenheim Voarlberg and Semmeringbahn owners get to use their 1116/4024s here since Wien VOR uses them too. I did it's western segment Westbahn Salzburg Wien
yes, this route/line also has station Zentralfriedhof where SOME services stop on the way further to VIE and such... CAT just BLASTS through (I filmed it passing, standing way behind the yellow line and even then it almost swept me away lol
Thanks and for this route does it get the 1293 Vectron fastest loco 1216? If Yes then they can fit here as Dostos Freight Railjets
on this route there is a ton of freight, since the smaller towns have high agricultural production and Rafinerie Schwechat is a freight giant on itself, just watch the video, and that looks like a less busy day lol (also, I remember riding the train as passenger to Hainburg, and as it was going around the refinery, it sped up to sth around 130-140 kph... lower speeds in the video are possibly due to track renewals at the time and such havent seen much Vectrons on the route, but that could have changed since then... CAT uses 1016 and 1116, but they will also receive new Stadler KISS trains, possibly those with vmax 160 kph... as for RailJets, not sure how much sense do they make... from VIE to Hauptbahnhof it is barely half an hour, and they go without stops, and only like 120 kph max... for RailJets to make any sense, they would also have to add new Westbahn with highspeed tunnels
