Any idea what the excluded 'new releases' are?

Perhaps to get away from the "backbiting"?

Didn't think of that TBH but there's a bit of a pissing contest going on there and the mod' is threatening to kill the thread so on balance...

Just grabbed the Stainmore route, looking forward to trying that - though the multiple file download and install is a bit of a PITA, especially as Windows Defender took a dislike to all of them... :)

I'll second that- a stunning achievement and I'm not particularly a steam enthusiast so, while the generous selection of kettles included is not unwelcome, it wasn't a great draw for me. The route itself though...

Well it all installed okay, looking forward to a nice steam thrash later.

I bought it as it was a requirement for OTS's Cumbrian Coast, not actually had a chance to play it but everything I've heard (and seen on YouTube) about it leaves me confident that it was not only a good purchase but a shrewd one too as I got it in the sale :)

Also apparently BR Blues are at home on it too, so no doubt I'll add to TSC's carbon footprint at some point

The route would be a fine stamping ground for a raspy Type 2, or a Class 40 dragging 10 Mark Ones!

The route closed in the early '60s and, apart from DMUs, seems to have been entirely worked by steam. Route availability was also limited due to concerns about Bouch's cast iron viaducts, so if Diesels did run I doubt there'd be anything bigger than a type three allowed or even type two. Steam loco's were restricted to class fives. Of course it's your train set but just so you know.

Completed my first run, the South Shields to Blackpool Saturday service from Barnard Castle across to Tebay. Very nice, some good thrash once I got the balance right to maintain or at least not lose too quickly the steam pressure. Though for some reason I failed the scenario, maybe because I was running about 20 minutes late. The perils of setting scenarios with Steam locos at too high a performance percentage!

You’re right. From some of the research I did when the route was first released, it seems ‘unlikely’ that apart from DMUs, diesels ever ran across the whole route. However, after the line’s closure, freight trains served Hartley Quarry (near Kirkby Stephen) from Carlisle via Penrith, Appleby and Warcop. Apparently, Kingmoor class 31s and 26s were used on these services although I have seen a photo of a blue class 40 on a Hartley Quarry service with about seven sheeted hoppers and a brake van. I understand these trains ran through Warcop to Kirby Stephen until 1974 when the line from Appleby was truncated at Warcop in 1974.

DMUs (class 101s) were introduced on the Stainmore line from 1958 operating services between Darlington, Kirkby Stephen and Penrith. Steam continued to haul other passenger trains (including summer specials) over the line until its closure in January 1962.

One thing this highlights is that TSC really needs a fresh range of Sulzer Type 2's, Class 24 through 27, which could get a nice workout across this route. The irony being we now have some superb quality steam traction in TSC, but classic diesels are in need of a bit of love.

It's about time DTG dusted off the IHH stock they squirrelled away and buffed them out with some nice modern day features and sounds.

Possibly still a bit of a hot potato in an open forum! The models and cabs were (are) still good but the sounds IMHO never really hit the sweet spot, which of course is one of the main attractions thrashing an 1160 - 1250 loco hauling 6 or 7 coaches up a 1 in 60 gradient. Although I personally had something of a rapprochement with IHH a few years back, we never did see eye to eye on the issue of sound and of course AP were also bound by the EULA from going in and doing a replacement set.

In the meantime I might invest in the Class 14 "Teddy Bear" which does get good reviews on Steam including its sounds and replace some of the steam with that. Now that also makes me think we need a Class 17 Clayton, too...

Also just checked the Class 24 reviews and the sounds seem to be getting a not disfavourable mention. At the sale price, worth a punt.

Edit... And a few moments later, off to clone and replace in a few scenarios!

Update... The Bear is actually okay but as expected the Class 24 sounds are still disappointing. Ferreting around my file box I also found the IHH Class 26 which never made it to Steam, but suspect that uses the same soundset as the 24. The unexpected bonus however was that I discovered I do after all own the AP Class 40, which is far superior to the DT version. More cloning of scenarios and substitutions today I think! Will keep the 24 as it will do for AI traffic.

I believe there was a Class 24-27 Sound pack on AP but it was an early one and it was withdrawn.
As all the locos still exist in preservation it would be easy to get new recording up to modern standards

One would like to think so Peter.

In addition I grabbed the Victory Works K1 and Q6 from the Steam sale as I figure these would be excellent traction for the line and later on thrashing the K1 across the West Highland an absolute must.
