Just noticed today that on the PC practically every route is on sale, which is awesome, but on my Xbox only a handful of them are on sale.

is there a good reason for this?
as an xbox customer should I always expect to get the short end of the stick on the sales?

I really love the sim. I would buy every one of those routes, but for $30 each when PC users are paying $8.99...... I'm just not going to do that.

And that is why, or one of the reasons why I stopped Buying ANY TSW__ on Xbox, with some items it was $60.00 for route and loco, not all but some. I still have much of what I bought on my XB1X, that is it, I'm done spending that kind Of $$$ on console game content. when on PC, there are more sales, and I can add mods.

unfortunately for me it runs much better on my series x than it does on my PC. I love this sim, but I can't justify spending thousands of dollars on a new PC for 1 game/sim. They could just make the sales the same across all platforms.

Yes that they could, and it may just bring in more people more $$$, but hey what do we the players know?

Just bear in mind that us poor PC master race who's boxes don't meet the Windows 11 requirements are going to have to fork out for a new box, or at minimum a new motherboard, CPU, DDR4 memory and probably PSU next year. That's when M$ drop support for Windows 10 and only an idiot is going to run an insecure operating system on a PC that does e-commerce including online banking and utility bills.

The sales are down to Microsoft who own the store. The same as Sony control sales on PlayStation.

The sale on steam is the annual steam summer sale it happens every year. I seem to recall there have been in sales on Xbox only and not steam or pc but Xbox users never seem to complain about that. Best thing to do is add stuff to your wishlist you want when it goes on sale you will get a notification so you won’t miss out on any short term sales etc.

They could find a way to balance it out & make it fair to all customers. That would make the most sense to me.

    It's always been that way.
The golden rule is buy everything you really want on sale and don't be tempted to wait for the item to appear in a future one because that is most likely years away.

Things can be changed. There is always a solution if you try to find one.

Were you saying that you should not wait for it to go on sale? I did that a few times at 1st and got burned every single time. Now I'm definitely only going to buy things on sale. If they never go on sale, then I'll just never get them.... or if takes years, then I'll buy in a few years if I'm even into it at that point.

that said, if they give xbox users the same opportunity as PC users to get the routes on sale, I'll buy every one on the spot.

No, you definetely can (and sometimes should) wait for a sale, but it happened more than once to me that a preferred item of mine got picked in a sale, I then thought 'well, let's wait for the next one, it might be even 10-20% cheaper then' and it basically wasn't picked for a sale for a long time afterwards, so if you really want it - pick it when you've got the chance ;)

Regarding what to pick or not I still use my '1€ for 1h of gameplay' rule, dating back to the early 2000s (no inflation here) - that works quite well most of the time for me although I'm noticing to be far more picky than during TSW2/3 days.

good for customer ? Possibly, likely to happen ? No, it’s a profit issue and if it’s working like that for them as it is, then it will stay, the only thing that will change that is a strong business prediction/move they could get/do that it will make them more cash.

fairness is more of a side affect of business costs, either it is and they will market it as such or it isn’t and they won’t mention it, it’s not a strive or goal, welcome to capitalism.

That would be awesome. I'd get a new computer for sure. It makes no sense though, because DTG sells TSW4, they don't sell PC's or Xbox's. Besides, Xbox VS PC is 2 different products. TSW routes are the same product.

Thanks, I had no idea about capitalism.

But seriously, they should just treat all customers the same. Thats my opinion, and I know they don't have to do anything about it. I choose to let them know how I feel regardless.

As others have mentioned the explanation for this is something to do with Microsoft and their control of the store.

That said when it comes to full games the Xbox and PS store usually have the exact same sales. When there’s a game I want but don’t want to pay full price I usually add it to my wish list on Xbox and PSN, that way I get an email when it goes on sale. I noticed for MOST games they go on sale on both platforms at the exact same time. For whatever reason that doesn’t extend to TSW routes.

Yeah, I get that Im just saying there is probably a way to balance it out if they wanted. If they can only do a few items at a time on xbox, they could just have more sales, until everything that PC users get on sale is covered.

Yeah, and that's why your argument does not really work. Either way, it's still..
so I do not understand what you want here. Steam will always have more sales on games, partially because they don't bleed money and lose money for every console, they clearly don't sell, unlike Microsoft in this case. But also because they will buy it at full price anyway, just like the people on this very forum who rant, yet bought yearly re-releases again and again.

    TLDR

Steam for example allows for a lot of freedom and lets developers have sales whenever. Consoles are just different

Well you could look at it this way. A few years ago I bought my current PC for about $2500. At that time it was top of the line. A good console was about $5-600. So, if the console owner and I bought the same dlc's since then, the console player would still have spent less than I have overall.
Of course I use my PC for much more than gaming. But it's already showing its age and I'll have to upgrade or replace it in a couple of years. It seems that the Gen9 consoles have a longer life.
So although PC players have better prices and sales overall, that's offset by the cost of equipment.

computer and console tech is irrelevant to game sales though, Microsoft/Sony doesn’t change its prices if the console is bad quality and neither does steam if they think your PC is going to go bye bye soon.

it’s about value for money for sure but not game costs.

Your always welcome to do as you want in that department, but the way I see it is it’s totally pointless trying to change it, it really is the equivalent of walking into a shop and thinking I don’t like the prices in here, they will lower them if I go talk to the manager…

    Thanks, I will.

You've apparently never talked to the manager.

A few years back I bought a guitar from Guitar Center. I noticed online that the price at my local store was higher then at the store on the other side of town. When I went into my local store I asked the manager if he could match the price from the other store. Guess what?? He did!!

I appreciate the replies, and to DTG, I appreciate the opportunity to express my opinions and share my experience here in the forum.
I do love this sim, and enjoy playing it every day.

I don't understand why, but I do believe you.
All I'm saying is its a big difference between the 2, and maybe there is some why to even it out. I'm not saying that I expect them to necessarily, but when I see stuff like that I'm certainly going to point it out either way.

  26. AtherianKing

No, like I say no point, one example is not the answer and matching prices is not the same as lowering or putting them in a sale, many sellers do offer matching price guarantees.

You really trying to tell me that if I email Microsoft or walk in Asda and say that £100 games nice, give it for say £50 as steam had a nice sale the other day, they will respond “oh yes of course”….

The last bit of research I did, even getting a middling motherboard and I7 CPU plus the DDR4 memory and PSU to run Win 11 is going to top out more than the cost of a new PS5.

Yes, you are 100% correct, and that is why many are buying or looking to buy a console, I and my daughter went to the only Microcenter in my area, to buy a couple of sata cables so we can install two(2) 6TB SSDs into the PC we have and share, those two(2) that I purchased from Newegg 11 Nov 2023 now cost the same as one. And still playing it off :|, the cost of PC components is climbing again. And I am not going to spend that much money if I were to look at the prices today for a PC and a current-gen console I would have to think hard about what my choice would be.

But If I could get a good PC that can handle current games like TSW for the price of a console, hands down I would go for the PC because I can add mods, be TSW or TSC or FO3/4, sadly that is not the case, not the way games are being created. And the console is the cheaper route.

I agree that sales on places like Steam are better and more frequent than on XBox. However I still prefer to buy from the Microsoft Store, for a couple of reasons:.

    1. TSW is a Play Anywhere title. All of the content I purchase is playable on both my PC and my Series X.
    2. I use Microsoft Reward points to redeem £10 a month and I use this to pay for DLC. Not a lot, but a free £10 a month is still free.

are you saying that if you bought TSW4 on Xbox, that you also own it on PC and vice versa? If so, how does it work?

Current Windows 11 has an option to get your Xbox games onto your PC, have not tried it but you get it done. If you're interested, maybe do a bit of research on it. But again it also hinges on how well it will run on the PC specs.

oh I see now, it works on both, but you still wouldn't get the steam sales unless you bought it on steam. Interesting though. Hadn't heard of it before.

Correct that is the one catch-thought, the only sales if any are through XB. I did see a thread or post on the forums with the heading "GamePass" You may find more info there. I have not tried it and now that I have the game all set up on PC, it would just eat up more storage space.

Correct. Whether you purchase the game on PC or XBox it is downloadable and playable on both. Most of the addons I have were purchased via console. However, once the XBox app is downloaded to PC you can install TSW to your PC and take advantage of all the mods. Best of both worlds, really.

This page explains "Play Anywhere" and lists all current titles:

Lucky 13 I knew someone would have a few answers, so then you can use mods from TSC mod pages?
But any DLC must be purchased through XB correct?

Yes. As long as the purchase is from the MIcrosoft Store, whether on PC or XBox, the SINGLE purchase is useable on both platforms.

I'll double check the use of mods tonight.

If you want more sales on Xbox then complain to Microsoft. As they are in charge of which developers and when they can go on sale.

Sony is in charge of PS and Valve or Epic are in charge of PC.

DTG can only accept sales when offered by the repected company.

Thats why when Xbox has a sale on say Madden 24, it not always on sale for PC or PS at the same time. EA dosen't control it.

it’s mostly as you say, but theirs also some restrictions from the company that makes the content (DTG/Third Party) its mostly to do with not putting brand new routes too quick in sales/large sales not much else, the rest is on the stores.

Owning TSW4 on PS5, Series X and PC. In my honest opinion PS5 seems to be the most consistent place to enjoy the game for me, with the Series X in third place. That’s down to the Series X version using the Series S version, too much distant scenery pop in for my liking. PC, I haven’t really played it enough on there to give an honest answer. Sales wise, I’m glad I invested in the PS5 version as like steam they seem to get the most sales.

I agree. Missing and/or disappearing/reappearing mountains do bum me out on the Xbox. Unfortunately I don't have a PS5.

yeah, that's what Im saying. It just doesn't make sense to me. We're all paying customers, it would be nice if we all got the same deal.

You probably missed it, but we had a massive sale of XBox content in the second half of July 2024. Details here and here.
Just nothing for Trains Sim World.

Do you have any particular knowledge on this, or are you simply guessing?
As far as I know, the details of how the pricing is set in console stores are secret, protected with NDAs. The official position from Microsoft is that the prices are set by the publisher. This would imply that publishers have a say in what goes on sale and what doesn't.

Prices are set by the publisher, yes, and that's us.

Whether we're invited into a sale or not however, is not up to us. Our retail team take advantage of every opportunity we're offered on all platforms. Once we're in a sale, I believe there are limits as to how *much* we can put in a sale (not the prices of it I think, that's up to us, but for example, on Steam we might put *everything* on sale but we can't do that on consoles etc).

Think of console sales as more of a platform-hosted event they curate content into, vs Steam is more of a "we're promoting X sale here, do what you wish".

    Matt.

Yeah, I saw the "ultimate add-on sale".... and was disappointed that TSW4 add-ons were not included.

to DTG Matt: Thanks, I do appreciate hearing from you. I really enjoy TSW4, and have invested quite a bit of money into it. That said, I'm not going to pay $30/$40 for something that I know other people are paying $8.99 for. I'll just wait, and if that kind of deal is offered to us Xbox customers, I'll likely buy it, assuming I'm still into it when that happens.
    thanks again

I didn't say prices just sales and yes as Matt confimed above and it has been answered several times ove the last 4 years I have been playing, watching streams, and reading on the forum which is how I know the answer.

Sony and Microsoft dictate when they can have a sale which was my point.

Don’t expect a sale on Xbox. I have only noticed add ons on sale twice in 2 and a half years of following TSW on Xbox. I’m not sure why this is the case, but it is.
