Hi guys, and welcome to my suggestion of the Salzburg-Tyrolese Railway between Freilassing and Schwarzach St.Veit, mainly set in Austria. The route itself is a major route, combining both fast running in the northern half and a slow and scenic experience through a valley crossing the Alps. Content 1) General description 2) Major stations 3) Includes vehicles 4) Layers and Substitution 5) Scenario ideas 6) Possible DLC 7) Conclusion General description While the whole Salzburg-Tyrolean Railway has the termini Salzburg and Wörgl, I’m suggesting to include the part from Salzburg to Schwarzach St. Veit, with the addition of the already known part to Freilassing. The route Itself is about 70 km long, so it is not too long in the TSW standard and totally doable. The new part starts at Salzburg HBF, where the route heads south. While the S3 and REX 3, the two main commuter services, do many stops, there are also some long-distance IC, D, EC and RJ services doing limited stop runs. Before Austria joined the EU, there were many more long-distance trains along this route, but since many faster trains use the “Großes Deutsches Eck“ trough germany, as this way is faster. Major stations Note: only stations with long-distance stops are included. There are more stations only served by S-Bahn and REX! Freilassing This station already known from Salzburg-Rosenheim is pretty much the border station between Germany and Austria. It sees a lot of traffic with international IC, RJ, RJX and EC long-distance services aswell as several S-Bahn, RB and RE lines. This is also the starting point for many of the S3 trains of the S-Bahn Salzburg. Salzburg Liefering This cargo-hub is my main reason for soggesting to include the part to Freilassing. As an inermodal facility many different cargo trains could be simulated starting from there. Also, shunting could be simulated at the container yard, giving the route a lot of potential. Salzburg HBF Salzburg HBF always felt empty on SRM, so revisiting this station with new vehicles could help the game massivley. While some long-distance trains continue to Freilassing, many more also terminate here. This station could see them getting into service, finally utilising the yard to it’s fullest. Also, the REX 3 starts from here. Golling- Abtenau This seemingly small station sees all long-distance trains stop here. Also, trains heading from Salzburg could drive with up to 130 km/h, while after the station, they need to slow down to slower line speeds <100 km/h. Bischofshofen In contrast to Golling-Abtenau, this station seems more major. With the Ennstalbahn merging here, there is an opportunity for AI traffic. This station also has more sidings, do different cargo trains could stop here to let passenger trains pass. St. Johann im Pongau This station is just in front of the suggested terminus, but long-distance trains do stop there. I do not have much to write about this, so sorry for all the fans of this station! Schwarzach St. Veit This station serves two cities: Schwarzach im Pongau and St. Veit im Pongau. There are lot’s of sidings here, so ending cargo trains does not seem as bad as on other routes (I’m lookming at you SKA). Here also the Tauernbahn branches off, so another opportunity for AI traffic. Included vehicles ÖBB 1144 The ÖBB 1144, also known as the „Alpenstaubsauger“ is one of the most legendary Austrian locomotives. The loco is used in all kinds of services and was build as a refurbishment of the 1044. On the route this loco would serve most REX 3, long-distance trains aswell as cargo trains. Interestingly, this loco can cooperate with Taurus locomotives. ÖBB Bmpz-l The Bmpz-l is a single-decker coach used by ÖBB mainly on regional services, although it can be seen on IC and D dervices aswell. This coach would be used on the REX 3 operated by 1144. ÖBB Bmpz-s The fitting cabcar for the Bmpz-l would be added with this waggon. It is used on most wagon-hauled REX 3, however some operate without the cabcar, so a loco changing ends would be nessesary. This coach also leads some long-distance trains, giving us more service variety. ÖBB Bmz This coach is already present on Semmeringbahn, so it could be present here. It would be the main coach On the long-distance trains, while having a small subtitiution chance on the REX 3. ÖBB 4024 This unit is also already present in TSW, so it should be easy to just copy it. This unit would be used on all the S-Bahn and some of the REX 3. Layers and substitution As a layer we could se several freight waggons from DLC such as BR155, Railpool 193 or BR363. Also the Semmeringbahn 1116 could layer as Railjet if we don’t get a DLC for that. The 111 could do regional services between Salzburg and Freilassing. As substitution the Expert 101 could sub onto EC services, while the 1116 could be seen on all 1144 services. The usual cargo trains (193, 185, etc.) would be seen on freight services. Note: The 1116 would even be realistic on double traction with the 1144, as this can happen in reallife. Both locos actually work together! Scenario ideas ÖBB 1144: Double towards the Alps Dtive a double heades ÖBB 1144 from Salzburg-Liefering to Schwarzach St. Veit. This should be a problemless ride T-REX Salzburg has a special dinosaur exibition. Drive this extra REX 3 from Bischofshofen to Salzburg HBF, where you’ll then change ends and drive back to Bischofshofen. Expect red signals. ÖBB 1144/Bmpz-s Preparations Some trains need to be prepared and brought into Salzburg HBF into service. Try to move fast, as delays are expected! Bmpz-s Night traffic An Euronight has broken down at Schwarzach St. Veit, so this replacement trai nhas been prepared. Take it towards Salzburg, where the german driver will take over. ÖBB 4024 Extended REX Some S-Bahn lines have been cancelled, so the REX 3 will start at Freilassing and take all the stops till Salzburg, where it will then change to a limited stop service. Possible DLC This route would have potential for some DLC. I listed one for commuter rail, one for long-distance rail and one for cargo. ÖBB 4746 The ÖBB 4746, also known as Desiro ML, is one of the most common multiple units found in Austra, as it operates on regional lines, S-Bahn (although not on this route) and even somtimes replace IC and RJ trains! Scenario Ideas That’s not a Railjet! The Railjet has broken down shortly before reaching St.Johann im Pongau, So this special double 4746 was prepared at Schwarzach St.Veit. Drive it as an ECS move to St. Johann, where you’ll continue as a RJ-service. City-S-Bahn S-Bahn Salzburg is testing ÖBB 4746 on the S-Bahn network. Your task: Drive one of the testing services from Salzburg Depot to Freilassing, where then you’ll head as an S-Bahn to Golling-Abtenau. International Rescue A 4746 has broken down while on ECS in Germany, so you’ll need to transport it back to Salzburg. Railjet The Railjet is one of the most requested Trains in TSW, so adding it would be perfect. On this route it doesn’t do so many services on this route. Still, having it would be superb mainly for layering onto many other routes. Scenario ideas CargoJet A Railjet loco had to be repurposed as a cargo unit. Take this train from Schwarzach St. Veit to Golling-Abtenau, where a different driver will take over. I need a loco You just took over this train in Bischofshfen, but a fellow Railjet has broken down! After reaching your final destination, Salzburg HBF, decouple from your waggons, and rescue the broken train. Nonstop Currently Salzburg HBF is experiencing renovations, so your train starting in Freilassing will pass right through this big station without stopping. Expect reds, as a lot of trains will try to sqeeze though the limited space in the station. ÖBB 1163 The ÖBB is a shunting and light freight loco. Currently, some units are based In Salzburg HBF, doing several duties there, so it would be the perfect fit. On the route it could prepare some IC trains from the depot, do shunting across the map, or run light cargo trains consisting of only a few waggons. Scenario ideas Shunt the containers! Some containers need shunting in Salzburg Liefering. Go ahead and make sure they will be shunted in time! Light cargo A light cargo train not consisting of many waggons needs to be brought to Bischofshofen. Start at Salzburg, where extra traffic is expected. En passant You drive a light container train consisting of three waggons and are currently standing in Golling-Abtenau, waiting for a regional train to pass by. Dispatch has asked you to couple to an IC without a cab car at Salzburg to bring it into the station, before bringing your containers to Liefering. Conclusion I think that this route would have a lot of potential to expand into Austria with TSW, as it would allow for varying operations and bring this route into TSW. Note: Sadly I have problems with attaching images, so sorry for not including them!
More ÖBB stuff, yes yes and yes! 1144 with the ÖBB Bmpz-l as push-pull would be amazing to see. Played the 4024 too much time for something else
