San bernardino Is hands down the best route on tsw5. The level of detail and the quality of this route is on an epic scale. Well done to all the team that worked on this route.
Just a shame about the flying cars on the roads and the floating cars in some parking lots. Been watching some non-ambassador videos on YouTube. DTG streams with the poor quality doesn’t do the game justice at all. It looks well better when the video is properly recorded and not done live. But yeah, too many futuristic cars for my liking.
Tbh I've seen a few floating cars in the 40 miles I've travelled towards LA. This route alone is worth the 54 quid.
I agree it is a great route... And while there are a few bugs (mostly shadows under cars, left side is quite good) and a few crossings that i reported in the feeback thread it doesnt mean it is a bad route. I enjoy this too... MAX1319 what are you for DTG, beta tester? you're doing a damn good job for reporting bugs from the forums
It’s EPIC. And with graphic enhancements it looks even better. 9.5/10 route for me! Most of the small issues are core issues that could be worked out separately (floating cars, lack of passengers at times, etc.)
As you run in-between the freeway it gets a bit sketchy but that don't spoil it. The heart of the route is perfect. It's got character, normally at this hour, I would get 5 mins into it and go to bed. But I can't put it down! Not only has it got me hooked, I'm being reeled in.
Being that I once worked at Downtown SBTC , I really enjoy the level of detailing , even the trash on the ground which is comical because that’s unfortunately often how that station is in IRL . .. Now I hope we can get an Orange County line seeing as there is a Metrolink Train that Starts IRL at Downtown SB and goes to OC which DTG represented in their timetable..
It’s very good but there are warts. Mentioned in the official feedback thread the lack of proper trucks, buses or emergency vehicles on the highways. The roads themselves look a little too clean for a busily pounded motorway. Some of the central reservation concrete barriers have been laid with what looked like curved kinks, almost like a Trainz spline. On the section approaching Covina from LA you run through a residential and commercial back area. There seems to be a bit of light bleed underneath the concrete walls, evident on the RHS direction of travel which gives the impression the walls/fence are slightly proud of the ground. Maybe this is just a visual artefact but it was kind of distracting. Several of the level crossings don’t seem to have the vehicle stoppers working properly or are lowering way too close to the train’s approach. The pluses are you finally get a chance to open up the F125 into notch 8 for more than a few seconds, with the combination of largely 60 MPH plus line speed and some significant gradients as you head east. As things stand I would rate the route 7.5/10, sort out the issues and this could rise to 9.5/10.
I have to agree. But for a couple of niggles (all tied to the roads, cars and crossings) it’s a belter, as is Fulda. Why WCMLS is so short and poorly built in comparison is depressing. WCMLS feels like a TSW2 route, SB and FF feel like TSW5.
WCML really does let the side down. I really do want to play SB and the Fulda route, but WCML is really holding me back from giving DTG my money.
Well can only report my personal findings but WCML not quite as bad as I expected. I would declare it 5.5/10 in its current state and it certainly needs some fettling and snagging. However I would not say that justifies a boycott, especially as the other two routes plus the Flixtrain are worth well over the £54 asking price for Deluxe. If necessary, take the stance I did and regard WCML as a bonus item, along with the 390 which actually is very good and redeems the route to some extent in my eyes.
Nobody apart from a fringe are advocating a boycott Vern. I think instead an emerging view is that waiting for promised fixes before pulling the trigger might be more useful in improving the product up from that 5.5/10. It's a small discount at present, and one I happily forego in return for a finished product. I have no interest in non UK routes and so for me, its a no brainer.
The level crossings added to the immersion for me. I was doing a long freight run, the cars belting across the crossings as I approached, then the others stopping as I was on top of the crossing made it seem more realistic. I mean this is what drivers would generally do irl when they see a slow moving 80 car freight train approaching. Maybe not so good if your in a fast moving passenger train clipping thru cars. But I've not done a passenger run yet.
Well for anyone on Steam with their refund history in good order, you do have the “buy and try” option. You can get a good couple of runs in on WCML in the 1hr 59min window which should be enough to decide if it’s a keeper at that price, or send it back and wait (probably) for the Easter sale next year.
After seeing the response s watching video and opinions ..my decision is i will download the free tsw 5 basic upgrade after tuesday the 17th then i will download all my US routes and some of my favorite UK EU etc routes for now ..Since i got 2 other train simulator. Games vying for my money now Trainz and TSC going to have to be more selective in what i get route and other DLC right now the US freight stuff in TSC and Trainz is getting priority and also want a few UK TSC routes that have large amount of freight in them..San Bernardino. Has turned out better than i thought and has a decent playable bnsf local freight timetable ..i will defiantly get San B and the Boston commuter later on ..The WCML really dont impress given its issues and too short . The Frankfurt route is good but wont buy it till maybe a sale ..the UK route i like is the upcoming JT WCML over Schapp.
The route is good (just good, but not gorgeous), but I still hope for Pacific Surfliner (at least to Oceanside)...
Really great route! I'm a fan of Antelope valley, but this one seems to be even more detailed! Did a full passenger run from LA to SB and had a great time. As others pointed out already, floating cars on the highway are really apparent in nice weather. There are also some level crossings where cars just drive across even with lowered barriers.
Your presence and responses are appreciated. From what you say, there are a bunch of issues with open tickets on Jira. Frankly I wish I felt any confidence that they will be fixed, judging by the continued presence of similar problems on Cajon Pass, a 2 year old route and others. Understand that you just consult so not your responsibility I know.
