Does anyone know how much yard work there is before i can complete actual routes and journeys getting abit boring shunting all the time
You can turn off auto load journeys in the settings then pick the ones you want to play from journey mode or timetable. The journey mode does do several yard work services at first but you don't have to play in order.
I'm constantly amazed by the number of people who think Journey must be played in order. Auto-Journey being defaulted to off might help with the confusion...
