I'm a big fan of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad (ATSF), or simply, the Santa Fe RR. I love the red and silver Warbonnet livery, as well as the blue and yellow freight version. ATSF had some interesting locomotives, from their unique, massive 2-10-10-2s to their big 2-10-4 Texas steam locos. Here is a definitive list of Santa Fe locos and routes that we should get in TSW4. Of course, we have Cajon Pass, which was originally owned by the ATSF (now BNSF), so we could see a Santa Fe DLC pack (or several) for Cajon. -New ATSF Routes (BNSF could also be run on these, too): -Seligman Subdivision: I've suggested this route many times. The Seligman Sub runs for 300 miles through the deserts of northern Arizona to southern California, along famous Route 66. The route runs between Winslow, AZ and Needles, CA, on the way to Barstow and LA. At Williams, AZ, the ATSF ran a 64-mile branch to the Grand Canyon, now the Grand Canyon RR Heritage Line (a route that I think should be added to TSW4 as well). ATSF maintained yards and crew change points in Needles and Winslow. Major ATSF passenger stations were located in Needles, Kingman, Williams, Flagstaff, and Winslow. The famed Super Chief and El Capitan passenger trains ran on this line. Now, Amtrak and BNSF use this line. The top speed is 70 mph, which would be great for TSW4, since we would have a high-speed freight line through the desert. Obviously, we would probably get a shorter (60-100 mile long) section and maybe an extension or two, of this route. -Raton Pass: -ATSF's Raton Pass is located in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. The 45 mile line runs from Trinidad, CO to Raton, NM over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The line has nearly 4% grades and is one of the steepest mountain railroad lines in the US. Currently, BNSF and Amtrak use this line, although BNSF has been using the Belen Cutoff in Texas to bypass the steep grades of Raton. This would be a much shorter ATSF route for DTG (or a 3rd Party) to make, and this would probably be the most likely western US ATSF route that we could see made. -Tehachapi Pass (Mojave Sub): -The ATSF has had trackage rights over SP's Tehachapi Pass/Mojave Sub (now UP and BNSF, which still has trackage rights). This route would include the famed Tehachapi Loop siding at Walong where trains cross over themselves. The SP and ATSF maintained yards at Mojave and Bakersfield. This route could include both SP and ATSF locomotives, including SP's big AC-series Cab Forwards and ATSF's 2-10-4s and 4-8-4s. This route is 181 miles, which might be a bit long for TSW4. This route should be added though. -Suggested ATSF Locomotives: -Steam: -ATSF 3751, 3765, and 3776-Class 4-8-4 (ATSF's first 4-8-4s; these include #3751 which was restored to operational status and #3759 which was preserved in Kingman, AZ) -ATSF 2900-Class 4-8-4 (the heaviest Northerns in the US; a couple are preserved, and #2926 was recently restored to operational status) -ATSF 3450 and 3460-Class 4-6-4 Hudsons (including the streamlined #3460 Blue Goose; a couple of these were preserved; unfortunately not #3460) -ATSF 3800-Class 2-10-2 "Santa Fes" -ATSF 5000 "Madame Queen" 2-10-4 (currently preserved in Amarillo, Texas) -ATSF 5001 and 5011-Class 2-10-4s (4 of the 5011-Class 2-10-4s are preserved; the 5011s had the largest drivers of any 2-10-4 in the US at 74") -ATSF 3000-Class 2-10-10-2 Mallet (10 of these were built as rebuilds of 2-10-2s; unique, but unsuccessful due to being unable to make enough steam for running fast; eventually rebuilt as conventional 2-10-2s) -Classic Diesel (1940s-60s): -FT, F3, or F7 A/B: in both Warbonnet and Blue/Yellow freight liveries; we have the Warbonnet ATSF F7s in game already -GP7/GP9 -GP20 -GP30 -GP35 -SD24 -Alco RSD-15 "Alligator" -FM H-12-44 -FM H-16-44 -Baldwin VO-1000 -FM Erie Built (ATSF had only 1 A-B-A set of these) -Alco DL107/108 A/B (ATSF had only 1 of each of these) -Modern Diesel (1970s-90s): -GP38/GP38r -GP39-2 -GP40X -GP50 -GP60/M/B -SD40/SD40-2(r) -SD45(r) -SD26 (rebuilt SD24) -F45 -FP45 -SDF40-2 (originally Amtrak SDP40Fs) -SD45-2 (include Bicentennial and SD45-2B units) -SD75M -U28CG -U30CG -U30C -U36C/SF30C Rebuild (basically C30-7s) -B36-7 -B23-7 -C30-7 -B40-8/B40-8W -C40-8W/C41-8W -C44-9W Of course, if we get Amtrak power for a 1980s-90s ATSF route, we need the following: -F40PH(R) -P32-8BWH -P40DC Genesis -P42DC Genesis
