On the patch notes on Steam is says the following:
"As a quick note: this is the same Save Game feature you saw in Train Sim World 2."

    Does that mean:
    1) It's exactly the same as TSW2 with no improvements/updates at all, or
    2) That it does feature the improvements discussed on recent streams?

It's the same. They are making fixes to it and people got real angry dtg removed the save option so dtg had to release it even though it's still broken only due to player demand. It still works fine for the most part, but it'll be a different experience for each person depending on their platform and such

I don't really understand this - they were quite clear on a recent stream (two weeks ago?) that progress had been made, and they were looking forward to getting it out so that the community could test the updates and help DTG iterate towards a more complete solution.

I admit I missed the streams last week, so maybe they mentioned this wasn't happening, but when the headline of a patch is bringing back the save function it does imply that there's some substance there.

The fixes simply aren't tested and ready to release yet, so rather than wait, we've put the toggle option on now for those that want to use save as it was and have been telling us it works fine for them. Once the fixes that we've done have completed testing, we'll roll them in to a patch - shouldn't be long, but i'd rather give them the time since they can potentially have implications to the entire game, not just resuming a saved game.

    Matt.

Thanks Matt, that makes sense - agree that it's better to wait until tested. I think my confusion came from not expecting to see the function return until there was some progress, but I see why you chose to add the basic save option back in now.
