Changes from TSW3 as relates to scoring: 1. Driving with safety systems raises the score per distance, as shown in the streams. This is fine. 2. Stopping at stations scores up to 500 points? I was under the impression that this would be reduced. What I do notice is that getting the whole 500 is very difficult. The best I could get so far is 490. Score drops very quickly. 3. Score for timeliness is 250, as previously advertised. However, Even if late, you still get the whole thing. I was over 2 minutes late, yet still getting 250. When I finish this run, I will update with distance information. Scoring for stopping accuracy seems a bit wild.
Are you playing Dresden? I think only the new routes use the new Score 2.0 system. IIRC Matt said old routes had some other fix applied to make gold achievable, but it is not the same thing.
Wow, this new scoring is bugged. 1. Drove service on Vorarlberg, intentionally didn't turn on safety systems or headlights, but I still get 65 APs per segment. 2. The penalty for overspeeding is only applied if you are caught over the limit at the time of the AP award. If you go over the limit, but return under the limit, no penalty is applied, even if you were in the red. I will be collecting evidence and open ticket.
Genuine question, why does it matter? It’s pointless and doesn’t mean anything anyway. Just turn it off and forget about it.
It matters because Scoring 2.0 was one of the selling points for TSW4. New HUD is buggy, new scoring is buggy. What are we being sold a new game for?!
Platinum was supposed to be awarded when scoring 90% of the maximum available points. This is clearly not the case, when the requirement is a little over half the score you get.
If they keep including it then they should be criticized until we either get a genuinely solid scoring system, or till they wave the white flag and finally gut it. It doesn't matter if something's a "minor" problem, it should be criticized. If you take the line of logic that certain problems just aren't worth addressing because they're minor. Next thing you know we'll be arguing that we can't address anything in TSW because we need to figure out world hunger first. Apologizes if this comes across as a bit overblown, but I've seen people use that line of logic in regard to much more important issues, and it annoyies the heck out out of me.
Oh yeah, I totally and absolutely agree with you. I was just rather cack-handedly trying to make the point that ‘scoring’ has no place in a simulator so my solution is just to turn it off and pretend it isn’t there. IMHO they should just remove it full stop, but equally I appreciate some people enjoy it. I do agree with the point also that if it’s to be included it should work, but then you could say that about graphics, sounds, gameplay, scenarios, timetables etc.
so did they remove the scoring points for things like sounding the horn or using wipers or turning on headlights etc....
I haven't seen any reference to sounding the horn. Wipers during rain should be a penalty. I haven't seen rain yet. Headlights should be an extra 5AP per segment, but this scoring seems to be completely broken, from what I have seen so far on DRA and VBG. On VBG, I drove two timetable services in Journey mode. I would get 65 APs per segment regardless of safety systems and headlights. From what they told us, you should only get 30 APs per segment without safety systems and headlights, 60 APs per segment when using all safety systems, and extra 5 when using the headlights correctly. I am now driving a scenario, also in Journey mode. I've enable safety systems, turned on headlights, yet I'm being awarded only 30 APs per segment.
the horn factor is important if you are driving you should use the horn at the crossing board and before entering the crossing. if this is not done may be you should lose points head light should be turn down to low beam when train passing from other direction. this was what we did on my days on the loco's in Australia. Just an idea to keep everyone on their your toes.
Agreed. It's all about looking out the window and driving the train instead of looking at the dash and driving the hud. Good scoring on the types of points you raised above can result in that.
Might not be popular, but I also think there should be a small bonus for driving with Next Signal Aspect, objective markers, and that multi-coloured station thingie off. Not a large one, just something to acknowledge the added difficulty it brings when you have to keep your eyes peeled and sharp.
