Picked this up in sale along with fife circle, as I fancied a dive in a 170 and I thought the 158 would add some interest to the route. Have found the scenarios, but cant find the 158s in timetable mode. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
What’s Edinburgh to Glasgow like vern, it’s going cheap at the moment, are there many 158 services on it?
The route is okayish, though suffers from a bit of Rivetness, if you get my meaning. I can't recall off hand how many 158 services in total but think there's a fair few.
E2G is neither here nor there, ultimately it’s a TSW2 route & like Vern said it’s got Rivetness to it & overall lacks detailing. Again though it was made for TSW2 & it’s essentially a 100mph racetrack. If you have the SR 158 already & can get E2G cheap, I’d say go for it on the grounds that it gives the 158 one of only 2 places in TSW it can do what it was built for - regional limited stop running. The other place being ECML but only for the EMT 158. It’s also the only route you can stretch the legs of the 380 on a timetable. Overall it’s not something id recommend by itself, but if you already own most of the scotrail stock, they do take advantage of its main feature. The caveat being you must own the SR158 to access the timetable which allows you to do so.
I am thinking about maybe getting it, but gosh it's an ugly route based on the store screenshots. Also the 385 is just so horribly ugly - though that's not the fault of the creators. It would be nice to drive the 158 though. Currently I only have Cathcart.
Just wait for the Fife Timetable honestly, or you could do some of the scenarios on Fife if you buy that route.
Although not my preferred era, the Scotrail 158 would go well on a route out of Inverness, either south towards Pitlochry or down the faster stretch of the Far North Line, maybe Lairg or at least Tain.
