Is it possible to connect the three existing Scotrail routes into one big route? Yes I know it may never happen but is it plausible?
Cathcart couldn’t be connected because that’s Glasgow Central, Edinburgh to Glasgow utilises Queen Street. There would have to be additional work to connect those lines (if such a thing exists in the real world - I’m not familiar with Scotland) As for Edinburgh to Glasgow and Fife Circle, it would be nice to connect them, however I don’t think it’s likely to happen The issue with connecting routes if I recall is the signalling, the timetable, the track markers and waypoints. It would require a massive rebuild. In theory it is plausible but I think it would be more efficient to just build the two routes together as one in initial development? I’m sure some devs at DTG or elsewhere will correct any mistakes I may have made, but that’s my understanding
There's no reason to. None of those 3 routes intersect with each other. Cathcart and EDN don't share tracks as far as I know so pointless. EDN and Fife only share track to Haymarket, so again pointless.
