Edinburgh to Dundee would be a diesel route connecting scotland's capital with its fourth largest city, via 2 separate lines. The route: The route itself would be around 75 miles long, starting at Edinburgh Waverley, going via both Glenrothes, and Kirkcaldy, and ending at dundee. There would be plenty of opportunity for rolling stock, making the area feel much more alive! Landmarks and stations: Edinburgh Waverley Waverley Dhùn Èideann +0mi Scotland's largest station, it sees several trains per hour from glasgow, hourly trains to and from London, and other services from the suburban areas around the central belt. Haymarket Margadh an Fheòir +1mi Only a short distance outside of Edinburgh, platform 1 and 2 see services heading to/from the north towards Glenrothes, and the highlands, while platforms 3 and 4 have services to/from glasgow, stirling, and helensburgh. South Gyle Gyle a deas +4mi A small station a few miles outside of Edinburgh Waverley, it is the first stop after branching off the mainline, it has 2 platforms with a shelter and ticket machine on each. Edinburgh gateway Slighe Dhùn Èideann +5mi Edinburgh gateway is a station within go gar, Edinburgh with an interchange to the Edinburgh tram, it is also known for its closeness to the airport Dalmeny Dùn Mheinidh +8mi Dalmeny is a station within the town of south queensferry, and is just a short distance from the forth bridge Forth bridge +9mi One of the UK's most famous landmarks, the forth rail bridge is a 1.5 mile bridge crossing the firth of fourth, it sees around 200 trains crossing per day! North queenferry Port na Banrighinn +11mi North queensferry is a 2 platform station just north of the forth, with an excellent view of the forth rail bridge. Inverkeithing Inbhir Chèitinn +13mi Inverkeithing is the last station before our route splits, with 2 platforms it is an interchange for passengers traveling between stations on the coastal route, and stations before Glenrothes. To Glenrothes: Rosyth Ros Fhìobh +14mi Our first station on the Glenrothes branch, it is a rather small station with 2 platforms, seeing bi-hourly trains to/from Edinburgh. Dunfermline City/Town Baile Dhùn Phàrlain +17mi Dunfermline City is a station within the newly named city of the same name, it was previously known as Dunfermline town before it got its city status. Dunfermline queen margaret Dùn Phàrlain Banrigh Mairead +18mi Dunfermline queen margaret is the second station in Dunfermline, it has the longest train station name in scotland! Cowdenbeath Cul Dun Beithe +22mi Cowdenbeath is one of several terminus stations on our route, it sees 2 trains per hour from Edinburgh, one terminating, and the other continuing to Glenrothes. Lochgelly Loch Geallaidh +25mi Lochgelly is a small, reletavely quiet station, with an hourly link to Edinburgh and glenrothes. Cardenden Uachdair Doirein +27mi Cardenden is another small station with in the town of the same name, it was originally a terminal before the section to Glenrothes was reopened. Glenrothes with thornton Gleann Rathais le Thornton +31mi Glenrothes with thornton is a terminus station on the fife circle line, it sees an hourly service to/from Edinburgh, with trains that terminate here usually continuing on the run back to Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy. To Kirkcaldy: Dalgety bay Bàgh Dhealgadaidh +14mi Dalgety bay is the first station on the western end of the route, and sees bi-hourly services from Edinburgh, one terminates here and the other continues back to Edinburgh via glenrothes. Aberdour Obar Dobhair +17mi Aberdour is a station within the town of aberdour, it has a similar name to the city of Aberdeen, however is almost 100 miles away. Burntisland An t-Eilean Loisgte +20mi Burntisland is another station on the fife circle line, originally opened in 1847, the station was the site of a crash between a freight train and a passenger train in 1914. Kinghorn Ceann Gronn +22mi Kinghorn is a 2 platform station 23 miles northeast of Edinburgh, the town also has a viaduct near the station. Kirkcaldy Cair Chaladain +26mi Kirkcaldy is a 2 platform station, and our last one before the line joins back up again, BTP has a small office within this station. Markinch Marc-Innis +33mi Markinch is the first station on the line to Dundee, and nicely closes up the fire circle, most services to Dundee and Perth call here, and some to Aberdeen and Inverness, with 2tph to and from Edinburgh. Ladybank Leathad Bog +38mi Ladybank is the last station where Dundee and Perth services run alongside one another, this would be where AI would take over services to Perth, although services to Dundee would continue. Springfield Gort an Tobair +43mi Springfield is the least busy station on the route, served by only 5tpd both directions, and only 880 passengers served in total in 2021/2022. Cupar Comhpairt +46mi Cupar is another station on the line to dundee, and is operated by scotrail, it was originally built with a through track, however this was removed, which gives extra distance between the 2 tracks. Leuchars Luacharas +51mi Our last stop before Dundee, leuchars is unique, being the only island platform station on our route. Dundee Dún dé +59mi Dundee is the ending point of our route, it sees services to Edinburgh, Perth, glasgow, aberdeen and inverness. It is served by scotrail, LNER, crosscountry, and the caledonian sleeper. Rolling stock: Set in modern day, this would allow the use of E-G layers, and perhaps ECML stock as AI at Edinburgh. Class 170 "turbostar" The class 170 would operate a majority of services, including both stopping fife circle, and semi-fast Dundee services, it would also sometimes couple to the class 158. Top speed: 100mph Services ran: Edinburgh to cowdenbeath, Edinburgh to glenrothes with thornton, Edinburgh to dundee Layers: Edinburgh-glasgow as AI around glasgow queen street and edinburgh, and static at Haymarket and eastfield depots, occasionally shows up as static at shields depot on cathcart circle. Included on release Class 158 "express sprinter" The class 158 would operate similar services to the class 170, and could have most assets and sounds reused from the existing EMT version Top speed: 90mph Services ran: same as 170 Layers: Edinburgh glasgow as AI at Haymarket depot, AI at glasgow and edinburgh. Cathcart circle as AI on glasgow central to edinburgh via shotts, Static at shields depot. Likely included on release. (1/2)
2/2: Class 43 "inter7city" The class 43 would operate express services along the route Top speed: 100mph (formerly 125mph) Services operated: Express from edinburgh to Dundee, aberdeen and inverness, AI from glasgow QS to inverness/aberdeen at dundee Layers: Edinburgh glasgow on AI at glasgow and edinburgh, and static/driveable depot moves. More likely to be added as DLC Flying scotsman The Scotsman would have plenty of opportunity for railtours around the route, allowing it to cross the iconic forth bridge. Class 66 The class 66 would layer for freight and RHTT runs. Class 385 "AT200" The class 385 would layer as AI between Edinburgh and Haymarket. Class 801 "Azuma" The class 801/2 would layer at Edinburgh as AI, as well as a few services going to and from glasgow central each day Overall: The Edinburgh to Dundee route has several iconic landmarks, such as Edinburgh castle, and the forth rail bridge, and plenty of services to drive, and a large network for the rolling stock to stretch its legs.
Good suggestion, I would love this line in TSW in the future , layers are nice and varied as well so you have lots of choices on this route One thing though: You did miss out a station between Cupar and Dundee, that being Leuchars (which is where you get the bus link to St Andrews) and also the Tay Bridge but other than that, it's a great route which needs to come to TSW at some point
Brilliant suggestion! I have suggested this myself and it's a wonderful route! I personally think it would be brilliant to have all 3 trains in as base DLC. But personally if it's another 1 train 1 route situation, it's gotta be the 170! Great idea! Love this route!
