This is the follow up to my Scottish Routes (Modern) post, have a look for it, I'd like to know your opinions! Now let's get started, shall we? (For the purposes, "Historical" is 2015 or before) • West Highland Line In my Modern Routes, this featured as well. Destinations: Fort William (and maybe Mallaig and Oban) - Glasgow Queen St. Stock: 156 & 158 (Regional Railways ScotRail) Why this route? Well first I'm going to point out that the trains on the TS21 West Highland Line should be carried over I just forgot the name. So why this route? It has a lot of detail, a lot of scenario potential and a lot to do, and flexibility on if or not to add the Mallaig extension and the Oban Branch line. • Clyde Commuters Split into multiple routes, I will go into them in more detail seperately but remember this is one route, different lines. ° Inverclyde Line (Glasgow Central - Gourock / Wemyss Bay) A Good Commuter line, and it has great views of the Clyde and has the ever wonderful Wemyss bag station. ° Largs & Ardrossan Lines (Glasgow Central - Largs and Ardrossan Harbour) Just saying, this is part of the Ayrshire Coast Line on my Modern Routes post, go check it out. This route again has great scenery, and is a medium length. ° CathcartCircle (Glasgow Central - Glasgow Central / Neilston / Newton) This is a route through Glasgow's southside, and is ultimately busy. ° Argyle Line (Milngaive / Dalmuir - Whifflet, Larkhall and Lanark) This is the core part, passing through Glasgow Central LL, this is a large expansive network, on top of the Largs, Ardrossan, Inverclyde and Cathcart lines. ° Paisley Canal Line (Glasgow Central High Level - Paisley Canal) A short commuter line ran by 314's and the occasional 318. ! Please note that due to the length some routes should probably be cut, this is only a recommendation, and an opinion ! Traction: Class 101 - Strathclyde Transport Class 303 - Strathclyde Transport Class 314 - Strathclyde Transport, SPT. Class 318 - Strathclyde Transport, SPT. Class 320 - Strathclyde Transport, SPT, First Scotrail (and I think NX ScotRail?) Class 158 - Strathclyde Transport, Scotrail (BR Regional) ScotRail (NX), Scotrail (First). Class 150 - Strathclyde Transport, SPT Yeah, a lot of trains. If anyone is wondering, these trains don't have Scotrail Saltire because they didn't get this livery until after 2015. ° Waverley Line Destinations: Edinburgh Waverley - Carlisle (Via Galashiels) Traction: I don't know. Why this route? On my Modern post I mentioned the Borders Railway, that uses a section of this line, but this is longer, this line was a victim of the Beeching Cuts. As I said on the modern route, it has great scenery, and if both came to the game, it would be good to compare the routes from the old days to today. The reason this post is empty and knowledge-less compared to the modern one is because I personally know more about modern trains than old. Again thanks for reading and please let me know your opinions and check out the Modern Scottish Routes post.
All great suggestions. I especially love the idea of a Class 101 in Scotland. It would be great to have some Strathclyde liveried trains (an orange 101 would be awesome). The 314 is a very logical suggestion as it is very similar to the 313 that will be in the game (mainly pantograph instead of 3rd rail shoe).
Also, there is a member of DTG staff that is rather fond of the 101 so probably wouldn't need much convincing to have another in the game. Plus here's a picture for anyone who hasn't seen one before.
If your doing the WHL then it should be set in the 70s or 80s which were by far the most interesting times. Plenty of freight, pax/freight combo trains, ETHELs, Mk1 & 3 sleepers. E&G should have a ScotRail Express Shove duff service which was by far the best the line ever had. You could even plan to integrate them in the same time period producing a wonderful route from Mallaig to Edinburgh full of lots of different types of stock including Eastfield TMD.
