So for whatever reason I always like driving trains LHF, at least from a visual perspective. Something about looking out over the whole engine just kind of feels cool, even if it does narrow your visibility just a tad. What I was curious about was the control arrangement? I’m noticed some railroads ordered these specifically LHF. Does that mean the controls in the cab were flipped around as well on those model? Or would the driver have to turn around to adjust the controls on the short hood side? Picture for reference… https://www.flickr.com/photos/91431315@N07/51254086827
I believe it depends on the railroad and what they specifically ordered.... For example, a handful of units came with dual control stands, so that the engineer was always on the right hand side of the locomotive, no matter the operating direction. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_control_stand The last units ever built for LHF operation, were most of Norfolk Southern's C39-8's which only had a control stand facing LHF.
