Driving service 5T75 ECS from Strood to St Pancras, approaching Stratford International you're brought down in speed as usual from 225 to 200 then 160, then suddenly 000 in 600 yards. No way to stop even with emergency brakes. There's another Javelin in platform, which presumably would be put in front of an ECS service, but just as presumably, the signalling would have brought me down from 225 to 100 a few signals earlier to account for the lack of path at Stratford?
Ideally if you are slowing down to approach Stratford you should be able to brake in time for the signal. I'm not up to speed on tvm signalling so I don't know how it works in rl.
The signal two before the station gives 160kmh as the limit, unlike when you're stopping it doesn't drop to 100 at the last signal, but then gives you 000 you should have been dropped down well before the stop signal
I looked at it, the 170 was flashing, you should have slowed down to at least 130 until the next block. Since the red zeros appear in the next block, you do not even stop braking until stop. Yesterday someone had the same problem with 5J49 because he ignored the flashing 170.
It's the same sometimes approaching both St Pancras and ebbsfleet, I assumed that in the real world a driver would start slowing down anyway on approach to a station. So by the time you reach the stop signal you're going slow enough to stop in time. I've been stopped on other places and yeah you do get 100kmh speed indicator. Also I've noticed when it goes from 160kmh to 000 the 160kmh indicator is continuously flashing, I think that's a reduce speed warning?
From my understanding, 170 would be the current speed limit and the flashing would mean "upcoming speed restriction at the next signal mast (the blue sign with the yellow triangle) I hadn't seen a change from 100kmh+ to 0 before, normally you'd be blocked down to 100 or 80 from what I have experienced.
Exactly, with a flashing 170 you have to slow down to at least 130 before reaching the next board, now TVM shows the zeros so you just keep braking and come to a stop in front of the next board. Once the zeros are displayed you have a good 0.6 miles to stop, was quite easy at 130.
I hadn't seen that as a requirement anywhere. Is there a list of which speeds you should be going when the various speeds flash?

Yeah, but it doesn't say "When you're doing 170 and the 170 is flashing by the time you get to the next signal you should be doing 130" All it says is "white background warns of an upcoming reduced speed, if at the next signal these will flash"
This is something dtg really should cover. Looking at the sehs manual it doesn't even mention tvm. Until dtg shed some light on it, if you get a speed reduction indicator for 170 and its still flashing when you reach 170, continue braking until you reach the next speed limit which is 130? I believe and so on. Using that method I've not been caught out by any stop signals.
Perhaps a real driver would slow down, but this was an ECS, so it probably wasn't booked to call at Stratford. Like many things in the railway industry, it isn't listed, but slowing down in anticipation of the next limit (could be 130, could be 100, probably not 000) is good practice, as it results in a much more comfortable braking curve. I do agree though, 600 yards to stop from 80mph does seem like a stretch (something only possible on Electrostars if you use notch 3 or emergency), however, having not any real-world experience with the system, nor any technical expertise, I am willing to believe that DTG's implementation of TVM430 is correct in this route. Could be wrong though, but I have nothing to go on.
Look at this, scroll down until you get to the brake curves, if you ignore everything above 230 the second brake curve shows exactly the situation of 5J49 and 5T75. You MUST be at 130 or below shortly after the zeros are displayed. Unfortunately everything is in french but with ctrl+c you can copy text and paste it into a translator. When the speed drops, there is a limit to how far it can drop from certain speeds. If TVM displays a 225, it can't go straight down to 000. It would have to count down through 225, 170, and 000. TVM can only drop from a maximum speed of 170 to 000. And 225 can only drop down to a minimum speed of 170. TVM is divided into fixed steps that must be learned and remembered, when the first number flashes you must slow down to the second number before the next board. The only difference between TGV and Javelin is the 230 which in our case is a 225 everything else is exactly the same: 320 = 300 300 = 270 270 = 230 230 = 200 225 = 200 200 = 170 170 = 130 160 = 100 130 = 100 100 = 80 I have been driving with these numbers since LGV and SEHS release and have never had any problems stopping in time. Despite many translations, the page linked above additionally helped me understand TVM and learn as much as I need for TSW.
Sequencer 2K16 is correct. According to this very French website, the stop aspect can be "presented after a 170" It is down to the driver to stop the train in this circumstance
That's odd... Did you stop at Ebbsfleet to do the power transfer? When you went through Stratford was there another train in the platform? Wondering what I did differently... I did go back and try again but got distracted, put her into emergency and quit to go do something else
I stopped to do the power change over which took a minute. About 2 miles outside of Stratford I got a 170 indicator (flashing) so I kept braking, at the next signal (still braking) 130 (flashing and still braking) then 100. By the time I reached the next signal I was at 100 and it stopped flashing. The train had already left Stratford as I passed on the thru line. Then once in the tunnel the speed limit went up again. I think the train in front was the one that occupied my platform at St Pancras. Normally you would be pathed ahead of it at Stratford. Oh and I did arrive at St Pancras around 10 mins ahead of schedule.
I didn't stop... maybe that made some difference as when I got to Stratford the other unit was still firmly in the platform I will try again
You have to stop at ebbsfleet to do power change and isolate aws. Otherwise I get emergency brake application every single time.
I have only had that once (the second attempt), and I think I was going too quickly. As you drop from Springhead into Ebbsfleet there's a change from MPH to kmh and it tripped me up as the speed limit drops to (from memory) 60mph to 62kmh and I didn't slow down.
Even when stopped, I start to move, as soon as I pass over the aws magnet I get emergency brake application. Even going 5mph. Only way to stop it is to isolate aws.
Odd, I've done it a few times and NOT got the AWS issue... Maybe I'm not setting it up the same way as you
