Looking forward to the route, but I'd have preferred some less modern traction to go with it.

Yeah i would have much preferred it to come with a 1144, but well it's first route in game that i actually have travelled on in real life so i am very excited. :D

Another chance to get their mountain scenery out, should be spectacular.

Could have been a great route (in theory, could still be a great route). But rolling stock seems to be really lacking, again...

On the bright side the new sounds that came with the Dispolok 182 will be used on the ÖBB variant, or maybe they’ll go and record totally brand new sounds?

This will be a great route for showing off the lidar mountain stuff... might pick this one up.

This route has great potentia if the br 182 Taurus locomotive gets a new set of sounds and also has services on Vorarlberg . The route definitely has potential for a fantastic route to play on with ic, railjets and nightejets in the mix and a fantastic scenery.

The potential is there. I just hope that this time they will give it the polish to match the AAA pricing

Don't release it until it is done

In the same vein as TSW2's theme was "High speed", the theme for TSW4 seems to be "Missing".

The Semmeringbahn is exciting, but the rolling stock selection is going to be lacking, which seems to be the theme for every DTG route in TSW4 so far.

I was wondering about that. There is freight on there but how much?! Maybe someone with more knowledge can write something about the real world situation.

Or is it stated anywhere that DTG is not intending to add freight layers?

One of the most important freight corridors in Europe. On a regular day you will definitely see more freight trains than passenger trains. Because of the gradient, extra locos (1144s from what I've seen last year) are often thrown in front. You would see pretty much all types of cargo on the route. So yeah, it's basically like leaving out ICEs on SKW.

Probably a sale purchase this one. Bought the TSC version a while back and barely touched it. A Railjet might have piqued my interest a bit more.

the Dispolok 182 get new sounds but not really so perfect so it's possible that we get better sounds and a new physics

...who said there's going to be no freight on Semmeringbahn? Or are you just extrapolating that from the fact that the three (3) screenshots we've seen so far have passenger trains in them?

It seems extremely unlikely to not include freight, it's just missing from screens because it will be all layers and not base content. I would not expect anything more than 182/185 with containers from A to B though.

It is safe to assume that since they haven't mentioned the layers, they're probably not there, because other DLCs with layers in them had that specified in the stream.

too bad it isnt Wien - Wiener Neustadt, but looking forward to this anyway... Taurus finally gets some main spotlight as a passenger loco :) given that it is pretty much Austrian national loco (along with Vectron), then yay... hopefully this one gets layered into Vorarlberg as well, so we get some 160 km/h runs... and maybe even Kassel, who knows? :)

They were just listing the headline features for each route, which in the case of the two (2) routes on which they mentioned layers is that they supposedly have an exceptional amount and variety of layers, not that they have layers at all.

There hasn't been a German Route without freight trains since Rapid Transit.

That's certainly not going to change on a route that has lots of freight trains in real life, is going to be a challenging drive with freight trains because of the grades and speed changes, and comes with a true universal locomotive that's used for both passenger and freight trains.

That's not all too safe to assume. But since we don't have a lot of fitting rolling stock, it's not easy to have layers that are realistic. I'm not sure if you can actually see ICEs on that route. And we don't have Railjets. So what other german rolling stock would make sense for a layer? Maybe the BR 101? But that would rather be a substituion, i think.

Maybe the Vectron will have a freight layer.

Soooo... something a Semmeringbahn freight layer should definitely be? If there actually is a freight layer and it hasn't been mentioned in the stream, that is a massive oversight on their part. That is a selling point for such route.

Though this was just more of an announcement. Showing off the "selling point" is more of a preview stream thing. Pretty sure the Vectron will have a freight layer.

Most of the freight stock can appear along with Traxx locos or Vectron, freight layer should be doable with what's available... but given the great architecture of the game only Vectron can probably cope with Austrian safety systems in the game.

Why would it be a layer? There's a loco that's widely used on freight trains in Austria included in the route.

As evidenced by the fact that Vorarlberg literally comes with a DB class 185.2 in TSW4. I assume by default the Taurus will do everything, but the Vectron and 185 will sub in if you have them.

yep, Taurus literally does everything as 1016 or 1116... since it can go 230 km/h, has 300 kN of power and powerful brakes, etc., it hauls everything from S-Bahn/REX/regional trains, single and double deck, IC, RailJet/NightJet, freight and heavy freight, it can do it all pretty much... thats why they tasked Siemens to do it, and gave it their copyrighted branding as Taurus :) it is easier to train drivers and maintain stuff if the backbone of your fleet can really do it all :)))

I am very hyped for this route. The TSC original ended at Gloggnitz but this one goes all the way to Wiener Neustadt, giving us both the slow mountain and the 'racetrack' style of driving. To all the people getting nervous about freight not being mentioned: I would advise you to wait for the more in-depth articles/streams before you pass judgement. IMHO the glimpse we got during DTG Direct is just that; a glimpse. I am 99 percent confident that there will be freight. Not even DTG would be brain-dead enough to overlook this...

One thing that would interest me is if we get Murzzuschlag in it's current 'building site' state, since they are working on the Semmerring Base Tunnel from there. Should make for some interesting scenery.

I believe Semmering Tunnel is done with the boring (not related to boredom, but tunneling lol), and now they are doing track, signalling and safety and such stuff :)

and yeah, I am hyped also cos of Wiener Neustadt Hbf... that one is MASSIVE... I mean, the city has like less than 50k inhabitants, and yet its main station dwarfs Bratislava main station :D ... so many platforms, trains to and from Vienna like every 2mins, sometimes even more :D

The route is great. Would've loved to see a Railjet not old Bmz coaches. Taurus is probably just a repaint with minor modifications from what we already have and Bmz coaches probably a repaint of the German IC coaches.

nice, but does it show the current state of the route in operation or also the state of the Base Tunnel itself :) as far as I know the completion is expected sometime around 2027 or 2028, but knowing OBB, they will be having coffee evenings in there by 2026 :D (they upgraded Wien-Stadlau - Marchegg to double track and electrified it, now basically just doing finishing touches while we, Slovaks, do our tiny 4km part plus repair the bridge over river Morava :D ; and now maybe out of boredom lol they are also upgrading the corridor to Marchegg via Ganserndorf :D )

Because the base DLC has no freight cars at all?
That's a 185 native to the route, hasn't it been tweaked for that?

especially with Wiener Neustadt Hbf: upload_2024-2-12_11-54-5.png
the upper cluster is Hbf, the other two clusters are yards I suppose, directly on mainline south I suppose... so this got to have some freight :)

edit: checked Street View and those two are definitely freight yards

It's way too early too assume that. I think the Kijls-Waggon that came with Kassel-Würzburg (along with other reused waggons) wasn't exactly in the spotlight. Yet, KWG has decent freight.

I'm like 110% sure that Semmering will also have freight coming vanilla witht the route, even though probably just reused locos (185.2) and waggons.

I really look forward to this route! It was very nice in Ts classic and will be even longer now!
I do have to say though that I also would have preferred a 1144 with the coaches and maybe the 1016/1116 with a new freight wagon like the innofreight containers for loose goods like wood pellets as a smaller extra pack… But let’s wait and see! My guess is we will get the British route in February, Rosenheim in March and Semmering in April

The only thing that bothers me a bit is that we'll only have the Bmz Coaches. No first class. That's a bit of a downer. But with formations editor and free roam as well as some repaints from the CC, you can still have very realistic trains.

    Something like

[BR 1116] + [Avmmz from HRR in ÖBB EC Livery] + [Avmmz from HRR in ÖBB EC Livery] + [Avmz from Left Rhine in ÖBB EC Livery] + [Bmz from Semmering] + [Bmz] + [Bmz] + [Bpmmz from HRR in ÖBB EC Livery]

Pretty easy to do in the formation designer.

I’m interested in this route, mostly because we are finally getting some OBB loco hauled stuff & the mountain pass combined with the racetrack will be quite a nice experience.

Usually I’m quite vocal when it comes to how often stock is reused, but the 1116 is so massively used by OBB, it would be nigh impossible to get around it (and in all honesty it looks great in the OBB livery). I do have to add my dismay at the apparent lack of 1st Class coach - not sure I’ve ever seen an all 2nd class consist?

Overall, as long as the freight gameplay is there, this is a very strong choice for an Austrian route. The talent 1 giving us the locals, the 1116 in the headline express role & freight filling out the backdrop of the route - combined with the versatility of terrain make this an excellent all rounder. Something that a new country in TSW rarely gets.

Taurus is pretty much their national, go-to loco... 1016 is mainly used within Austria, for freight and passenger, 1116 is most commonly used as it has multisystem capabilities and 1216 has even more of that, I believe Czech Rail/ComfortJets use those and Vectrons

until more massive spread of Vectrons, it was also most common... and with the advent of Vectron 230, its position might get a bit weaker still... but both are great and Taurus also has the edge to be better looking... many dub it as a poster on rails

Yeah I do think they missed a trick with omitting an OBB Vectron, but I do think the Taurus is still the sensible pick. In my head at least it’s what I see when you say OBB.

The Vectron would have been nice to see in its OBB config as a second option. TSW’s Vectron is great & it’s being wasted just leaving it as a single variant. More choice is never a bad thing.

The new Railjet consists have their DVT profile modeled after the Vectron cab. The older sets DVTs are modeled after the Tauras profile design.

The 1216 locos are different externally in that they have the drivers doors at each cab instead of access to the central corridor.

    The 1216 is the BR183.

Wait, there isn't even new Rolling Stock for this Route ? All recycled? How lazy. But of course, if you can sell rolling stock as a separate dlc later, that gives you more money. Seems to be a common thing now for tsw. Increase price, decrease content, increase DLC.... Stonk
