Good evening, with Semmeringbahn being included in the current xbox sale I wonder if some of you guys from DTG could finde some time and give a short update on the draw distance issue on Series X? I appreciate your answers in Julys roadmap stream that you're looking at it and am looking forward to the resolved audio compression in TSW5 (probably the thing I'm most looking forward at, alongside the clickable screens) but with this having a direct impact on a buying decision I wonder if it's reasonable to expect a fix for this somewhere this year? I know you don't usually announce timeframes for such things, hence why I put the scope on 2024, and because I'm not expecting Semmeringbahn being on sale anytime soon. But since the draw distance makes quite an heavy impact for me (I don't use Vorarlberg at all and Salzburg-Rosenheim only sometimes hoping for this to be resolved and saving my runs until then) and I couldn't find an answer in the Q&A threads for TSW5 I wanted to rise this up again- at least something like 'not forgotten, still on the list' would be nice to hear/read. Favorite answer would be 'we're making good progress' of course
Increasing the track shadow draw distance by around 50 feet is seen by DTG as a wonderous achievement in TSW5. So you haven't got a hope in hell of more substantial improvements for a few years.
They did say they wanted to see what impact the audio upgrade may have caused before playing with the settings. As it will cause added stress to memory usage so the need to figure out how bad first. So I wouldn't expect it anytime before the Winter update if not longer. But I do know it is something they are working on in coversations with Matt. I would assume though it is not top of the priority list since it is only 1 console impacted and other issues are with all platforms would have priority. I'm a Series X player as well so I am looking forward to this as well. Juat have patience.
Be careful what you wish for. My recollections of Series X on TSW4 are of an overall very smooth gameplay experience, even on taxing routes. Over on PS5 where the draw distances are already further out, I find the experience less pleasing, with visible choppiness varying from a little to a lot depending upon the route. Given the choice, I'd take the Series X experience every time. What would be better is to have a choice of quality and performance modes on console like with most modern games, but those kind of QoL enhancements seem far down on DTG's priority list, if at all on it.
Cool, thanks for your reply! I missed that bit of information (haven't watched much streams yet) but find it reasonable. We don't want another Miles Platting situation although I personally would be willing to sacrifice performance for the draw distance in this particular case... But that's quite individual. I remember running MSTS with 7-10 fps on an old machine... Let's see what the future brings. I better save my money on Semmeringbahn then.
Great point. I will point out though that something happened in the last month or so that has made the PS5 version run noticeably smoother. I’m not sure what changed but it’s less choppy on every route I find (still not as good as the X though). Hopefully it carries over to TSW5.
This game really needs a quality / balanced / performance option on consoles, push all the settings out as far as they can whilst maintaining a locked 30fps, trim them back a bit for a 40fps mode for 120hz TVs and keep the as is for the 60fps performance mode.
