    Hi there,

I would love to count with any help, if possible.

I am doing the ECML (Azuma) for the first time, after some training center missions.

Well, everything is going well, except that I am receiving that warning "service failure: signal passed at danger" and need to reload a previous save.

I am not accustomed with trains terminology nor nothing related, and this is the first time I am playing a train simulator.

What do I need to do there? Reducing throttle slowly once I get yellow signs until the train stops before the red sign?

Or do I need to pass the red sign with very slow speed?

I have already reloaded several saves, but don't get to understand this very well. Would appreciate any help.

Red signals mean stop. You must stop before the signal otherwise you will get a SPAD - Signal Passed At Danger. Only proceed once the signal has changed to green.

When you start to see yellow signals, reduce speed in anticipation for a red signal.
The signal sequence will be double yellow, yellow, red.

Signal Passed At Danger means instant failure, always resulting in the current game session ending. There is a patch though that allows SPADs without ending the game session so you can reverse your train and continue

    Understood. :)

    Thank you so much!

  5. Maybe tell us the service number so I can make a video for you and show you?

    Service number?

    Time depart station?

When you get a double yellow you will need to be aware the next signal is a single yellow. Then the next signal is red. So you need to slow down quickly after single yellow, you have 1200 metres approximately to stop. So remember if SINGLE yellow you will have to stop (it will make you slow down to 15 MPH at least!!)

There is a manual but doesn't really say much apart from a few lines page 66-67.

    Youtube may help more

Also tutorials in LNER on TSW4 game.

    Hi SD40Australia ,

Great, thank you very much for your detailed instructions! :)

So, sorry if I informed something wrong, I am just trying to get everything up and understand all the things.

Currently I am doing ECML 1B85 Newark Northgate to London Kings Cross.

If you want some good information on British signals, you can watch these videos:

Don't be scared of their length, as most of it is just driving the route. If you don't want to watch all of the driving, you can always skip straight to PowerPoint presentations, which are relatively short and give a lot of useful information with visualization and pictures. It might still be a bit overwhelming, but remember that you don't really need to learn everything at once, you can always skip complicated parts and come back to them later.

The reason the game kills your session if you run a red light, is because it's one of the greatest sins a driver can commit. Do it in real life and the best you can expect is a meeting with the Boss with no tea or biscuits- but very likely the dole queue.

The reason has been said above but I will offer a bit of easy to remember advice which should ensure you don't get any SPAD's because in real life, as a driver it is one of the last things that you want to do!
What you what to be looking at doing is passing double yellow aspects at 80-90 mph, single yellows at 50-60mph, the yellow AWS ramp in the middle of the track before the red at about 20 mph and then ensure you stop far enough away so that you can see the whole signal, from the bottom to the top.

Here in the US, we have something called PTC - positive train control. All trains are federally mandated to have it installed and active when running. PTC would completely prevent you from ever getting close to running a red signal as it will automatically put the train into emergency brake application prior to this.

I confess I totally forgot this when I played first times.

I mean, I drive cars here in my country, but driving trains and all these things were new for me. I even did not see that red lights, to be honest, when I drove my first train in TSW4.

Well, I am around 8 hours of gameplay yet, and I know I have many things to learn. :)

Thanks to you all for all the help and kindness.

In the UK we have two options you will find, depending on the route:

    Green - Line Ahead Clear
Yellow - Signal Ahead is RED
    Red - STOP

    Green - Line Ahead Clear
Double Yellow - Caution (start to reduce speed)
Yellow - Signal Ahead is RED
    Red - STOP

On the ECML Route, you will also see Flashing Green signals, you should treat them as Green.

On UK routes you may also find the following:

Two FLASHING yellow lights - caution you are changing lines, reduce speed
One FLASHING yellow light - caution you are changing lines, reduce speed**

**the signal after this could be RED, you should always assume it will be, until you can see it.

Yes, but if you are driving an hour or more service and accidentally SPAD, replay it again is frustrating, is much better one system that if you SPAD the game penalty is - 1000 action points, but the service continues, the boss meeting appear at the end
