This is probably one of the most NEEDED TSW4 route for the game. The Settle and Carlisle line is a very scenic route spanning 73 miles from Settle to Carlisle, but it could be extended to Leeds. Full Length (+ Leeds Extension) : 114.9 miles Player Route Length: 73 miles How long the average service is: 1 hour 40 minutes Stations: 19 (Going from Carlisle) Carlisle Armarthwaite Lazonby & Kirkoswald Langwathby Appleby Kirkby Stephen Garsdale Dent Ribblehead Horton-In-Ribblesdale Settle Motive Power: British Rail Class 156 ‘Super Sprinter’ As DTG has a Northern license, (evidence is the Glossop Line) they could include the British Rail Class 156 DMU’s as Northern does operate 156’s on the Settle and Carlisle Line. Meaning that the 156 would be the main locomotive for this route. (most likely) British Rail Class 158 ‘Express Sprinter’ (Possible DLC) The 158 does also run on the Settle and Carlisle Line, but i think it would fit as a DLC as Dovetail doesn’t technically ‘own’ the 158 model, as Skyhook does. It’s a bit like the Scotrail 158 coming soon for Fife Circle, A new livery for the 158, for a route. Possible Layers: WCL Steam Railtour for using the Black Jubilee to represent The Dalesmen railtour services (AI Seasonal) Blackpool Branches (or NTP) for ‘Statesmen’ services BR Class 33 RHTT ECML or GWE (for Freight Services with the overused EWS 66) (DB Schenker Livery Included) BR Class 52 (WSR or DLGW) AI (at Carlisle) (that I can think of) 170/4 (Fife Circle) (Upcoming) Scotrail 158 (Fife Circle)
Definitely needed in TSW though my preference would be classic loco hauled era, albeit later when there were more than two or three trains a day in each direction. Flawed as it is, the Jubilee on a Railtour would also fit nicely across there though even better with a Duchess as I did in 1985! Six Bells Junction
One of my first simulated routes from the MSTS days. I actually just picked up the Great British Diesels add-on for Open Rails to go with it (I know it's not prototypical and dated, but it still has a certain charm). I agree that this would make a great addition to TSW (Flying Scotsman railtour, please!), but like Vern said I would prefer it in the loco-hauled era. This would be a good project for JustTrains to take on.
Just realised I put the amount of stations from Carlisle - Leeds, and not Carlisle - Settle. There would be 11 stations on the route, not 19. Whoop!
Oh yes! One of my favorite routes in the UK! Class 156 as standard DMU, included with the route. 158 as later DLC. And of course, many layers of railtours with diesel units and steam engines: Flying Scotsman, Stanier 8F, Jubilee (black and green), Fowler 4F etc... I would also like to see more Northnern units in the game!
The MSTS version also had a Class 50 with a free DLC, so that would be great to see. Some LMS steam power (Black 5, 8F, etc.) would be cool to see. A BR Class 57 "Thunderbird" (rebuilt Class 47), 47, 37, etc. would be a good idea, too. This route needs both freight and passenger train operations.
