I'm gonna share this video of a local crew to show what I'm talking about. I know it's rather specific, but this is the sort of thing I grew up with around here. It's not just one thing... it's a bunch of things together to add up. For example, you can do some shunting on Sand Patch but that's it... you shunt and then it stops. On other runs you JUST do the drive, then stop in the middle of the track as if you're "done" but that's like stopping in front of your house and parking in the street. West Somerset is the closest in that you can do a couple whole scenarios but it's limited to carriages (since it's a heritage railway) but at least you do go places and not JUST shunt or JUST haul. (WSR is also a beautiful map so the slow speed really shows off the route's detail.) Anyway, just wondering what I'm missing and if anyone can recommend some nice short haul/local action with variety, some road running. Sure it's nice seeing a 100-car train running through the open desert or plains but that's not how all freight is. A lot of it is local and up close (and most of those 100 cars on the long trains are delivered the "last mile" to the factories/warehouses by these smaller trains from the Class 1 depots) Does TSW have any more of this? How about TSC? Recommendations appreciated!
Lots of shunting opportunities in TSC. Some interesting puzzles using shunting to complete the scenario. 100+ carriages attached also available in TSC on US routes as well as scenarios where you deliver to several small industries. Most US routes have 1 or 2 scenarios and you can build your own on Quick Drive. The two Boston routes in TSC offer a variety of switching scenarios particularly if you like older motive power, too. Of course the granddaddy of US switching remains Run 8. If you have the full SoCal network and grab the “Very Populated…” session from The Depot, I reckoned it could take months of gameplay to process all the cars and consists through the various industries and that’s without spawning in any additional trains.
Thanks for the ideas! I did run some Oakville. Some of the missions are broken, but it's a fun experience! Boston on TSC right? The TSW Boston freight is pretty limiited isn't it?
