Blackpool of course. If you want reasons why then look at the feedback on both routes here on the forum.
I would imagine that this is like picking between a really good local 5-star restaurant and a Burger King.
Blackpool route is easily one of the best routes in the game if not the best, if the content is your kinda thing I would say to get that one.
Blackpool, it is by far the best route I have, only reason I would suggest you buy Maintalbahn is if you a extreme hatred of British routes, which I assume you don't because your asking this question.
I can't recommend Blackpool enough. The Class 142 "Pacer" is a great addition to TSW, you simply must experience the bouncy goodness for yourself! You can also use it on WCL to drive any 150 services, complete with announcements on WCL. Route scenery is on another level, it's basically the UK's equivalent of Niddertalbahn. The route's timetable is full of life and has a lot of variety when it comes to passenger services, especially for the pacer. You have a freight-only branch going to Burn Naze, and some shunting action for the class 08. Majority of these services require no extra layers. If you do happen to own the other BR era routes and Spirit of Steam, stock from those releases will appear on Blackpool Branches and add a few extra services to the player timetable. I am enjoying Maintalbahn as well but the nature of the route means there isn't as much to do. You'll get more out of your money from Blackpool. You could then pick up Maintalbahn at a later date
No contest. Blackpool. I mean I haven't bought Maintalbahn but the feedback alone indicates the route and train have been produced to a very low standard and quality. Plus if you own WCL, the Class 142 from BPO will layer into that.
Not to mention the already stated shortcomings of Maintalbahn, why would anyone "just buy" such low quality content?
