Race along the historic Wales/England border in iconic Welsh traction in Train Sim World 2: Shrewsbury - Chester Modern. Featuring two DMUs in TfWs striking red and white livery you are sure to be kept on your toes with the variety of services this route offers History The Shrewsbury to Chester line was built as a double-track line by the Shrewsbury and Chester railway by 1848. By 1854, the S&C was effectively forced to become part of the wider Great Western Railway. As part of nationalisation in 1948, the line became part of the BR Western Region, although was subsequently transferred to the London Midland region in 1963. As part of the Beeching cuts in the 1960s, many small halts along the line were closed and a large reduction in freight traffic took place. In the 1980s, the section of track between Wrexham General and Saltney Jn was reduced to single track. However, by 2017 redoubling work was completed and the section from Saltney Jn to Rossett Jn was redoubled, leaving only 4mi of single track on the line. Today, services are on the hands of Transport for Wales, with a fleet of Class 150 and 158 Sprinters and Class 67-hauled services. Stations and route length The 43mi 7ch (incl. Wrexham Central branch) features 7 stations at, from south to north, Shrewsbury, Gobowen, Chirk, Ruabon, Wrexham General (Wrexham branch divides here, stations at Wrexham Central only) and Chester. Rolling stock and service patterns Services are primarily operated by Transport for Wales using a fleet of Class 158 and Class 150 DMUs, although loco-hauled workings do frequent the line daily as well as a few workings a day by Class 175 DMUs Class 158 (TfW Red/White) 1Dxx Birmingham Intl - Holyhead (0.5tph) 1Jxx Birmingham Intl - Manchester Picc (1tpd each way) 2Dxx Shrewsbury - Chester (1tpd each way) Class 150 (TfW Red/White) 1Wxx Cardiff Central - Holyhead (4tpd each way) 1Bxx Wrexham Gen - Liverpool Lime St (1tpd each way) 2Fxx Wrexham Cen - Bidston (1tph) The route also has potential for a Class 67 DLC on TfW loco-hauled 1Wxx workings as well as TfW Class 153 or 175 DLC. Including a Class 158, a 150 and a 67 could be a bit much for DTG. The 67 also only runs about 2tpd either way on the line. It has potential to be a DLC though
