This single-track route section between Tisovec and Brezno is very scenic, is in the Slovak national park Muránska planina. This route section takes between 45-50 minutes, and it is registered as a national cultural monument (NKP). A rack railway has been installed from the Pohronská Polhora station to the Tisovec station, the only one in Europe that is not electrified and has standard gauge rails (1 435 mm). As I said this is only part of the route 174 from Tisovec to Brezno (originally Jesenské - Brezno). Top speed on this route is 80 km/h and biggest slope is 50,2 ‰ Here is detailed section Tisovec - Brezno: 0,0 km - Station Tisovec (413 m ASL) 0,3 km - Tisovec Tunnel (786m) and start of the 1st part of rack railway 1,1 km - Exit from tunnel 2,0 km - Long steel bridge Devil's Viaduct (Čertov viadukt) Length - 105 m, height - 14 m then slope 48 ‰. 3,2 km - End of the 1st part of rack railway 3,8 km - Start of the 2nd part of rack railway 4,5 km - Pod Dielom Viaduct (Viadukt pod Dielom). Length - 167 m, height - 20 m 6,0 km - Most of the slope - 50,2 ‰ 6,7 km - End of the rack railway 7,0 km - Station Zbojská (725 m ASL) - Between those 2 stations is 3rd and last rack railway down the hill 10,6 km - Station Pohronská Polhora (614 m ASL) 13,8 km - Station Michalová (585 m ASL) 18,8 km - Station Rohozná (540 m ASL) 23,5 km - Station Brezno city (495 m ASL) 25,2 km - Railway station Brezno (490 m ASL) The highlighted is full 174, not only the section because I can not find anything else. Here is what is riding on this route: Typically here rides ZSSK class 812 "Luxuska" - It runs on one carriage because it is not a rack railway and if it had trailer carriages it would be too heavy. Heritage train was and is on special days Locomotive 40.006 Steam Rack Engine with 2-axle historical coaches (Class Ci) with open platforms and historical freight wooden boxcars (Class Z) for authentic historical scenarios. Next is "modern" freight with very powerful locomotive Class 751 diesel with can take only 80 - 100 ton of freight (2-3 loaded cars) because of the slope Sometimes here show up diesel ZSSK class 813 what is modernised 812 and it have 2 connected carriages or the historical diesel class 820. The TSW does not have many rack railways or eastern European routes, so I think it would be fun for many people. There can by many challenges (maybe: try to get 3 coupled 812 on the 50,22‰ hill or go on iced tracks with 751 down the hill,...) I have no ideas now because it is 22:50 (10:50 pm) I was doing this about 3 hours so I hope you will at least see it. And Happy New Year
