Another week, another dose of wishful thinking from Central Europe! Today I'm suggesting this tract of a vital freight route for every country up as far as Germany and Poland, travelling from the Austrian border and ending up in Ljubljana.

    THE ROUTE

Part of one of Europe's prettiest routes, it's a gently twisting 48km of track with 70-100km limits throughout, through the foothills of the Alps. Part of one of the better, if scenario-light DLCs for TS, its mix of stopping passenger runs, express overnight trains and heavy freight would provide a diverse range of activities to keep everyone happy (except the metro guys, sorry - none of that in ex-Yugo states). A full ride takes from 57-80 minutes, so in spite of its relatively short distance there will be enough to keep you occupied here.

Rather than taking up picture space with images of the Slovenian countryside, here's a cab video of the full route, drifting past Lake Bled and the tourist resort of Lesce and the industrial city of Kranj before entering the outskirts of Ljubljana and its large marshalling yards.

Route map - apologies for simply screenshotting ORM, but I couldn't find a better solution. Our main line is the 20 route in orange.

    THE ROLLING STOCK

Slovenian Railways work closely with their northern counterparts in Austria, meaning a lot of the traction will be familiar to Austrian and German rail fans. Siemens locos Taurus and Vectron both feature heavily in freight work, with the 1144 OEBB loco appearing at Jesenice before being replaced by Slovenian locos. For passenger services on this line, faster trains are pulled by the SŽ serija 342 'Moped', while stopping trains are now (as of July) run by Stadler EMUs, the company owning both KISS and FLIRT models. Until this summer, these were run by 1960s Polish EN57 EMUs, which could provide some retro action for a bit of variety.

Standing at Ljubljana station running stopping service to Kranj. The graffiti is essential. Incidentally, while running in Yugoslavia these were nicknamed 'Gomulka', after the leader of the Polish People's Republic.

Taurus, Vectron and KISS models are quite familiar, I think.

    THE SCENARIOS

For freight, there are two major options here - Ljubljana has various freight terminals and yards, all of which could be utilised for marshalling and deliveries, while just south of Jesenice there's a large steel plant with its own rail spur at Slovenski Javornik. There is also a major freight terminal at Naklo, accessed via a short branch line from Kranj. Here there's an asphalt plant and a depot for industrial and technical company Merkur, both of which should be featured for collections and deliveries.

For passenger routes, it's quite straightforward - the stopping services go both halfway to Kranj as well as all the way to Jesenice, and there should also be the opportunity to drive the Vienna express non-stop.

That's more or less it - given the right treatment, with the right range of activities, this could be an essential DLC in spite of its lesser-known location. I realise this is mostly a direct appeal to RSSLO to get involved in TSW, but in the meantime, hope you enjoy.

The Taurus locomotive is OBB 1216 SZ541 Vectron OBB 1293 ELL BR 193. These come from Wien Hbf via Rudolfsbahn & Westbahn Wien Amsetten. In older documents of the route by OBB or predcessor Austro-Hungarian Railways this is called Bahnstrecke Laibach Assling. German wiki articles are Rosentalbahn Villach-Rosenbach & Tarvis-Laibach. Voltage Change occurs at Jesenice DB OBB 15kv 16.7hz to SZ 3kv DC while PZB Indusi is used on both sides of the Austrian Slovenian Border.

I'd instantly buy this if it comes with any of these older locomotives.

I'd wait for a sale if it comes with another fugly Taurus.

You mean SZ541 ÖBB1216. The only locomotive here that's capable of Running Dutch ATB in addition to German Austrian Slovenian PZB is BR193 from ELL in the case of ÖBB locomotives 1293 173-200 that have ATB installed. The ÖBB 1293 Vectron locomotives that you are likely to see here are ÖBB Vectron locomotives 1293 001-1293 080 link is from the German Wikipedia . The reason for that is that they have the equipment for Slovenia and Hungary.

You can't have trains in ex Yugoslavia without graffiti, it's virtually the livery by now.

Lovely stuff, it's the most underrated country in Europe I think so more attention on it is needed!

LOVE the Brižita, sadly you don't often see it up this end of the network but you do see it on occasion, so gladly yes!

That's what Jesenice Villach Came with since your suggestion is the Slovenian portion of Karawanken Bahn TS22 Villach to Ljubljana via Jesenice with Branch to Italy Tarviso. What you did was bring a TS22 route to TSW2 by Introducing Slovenia.

Ah no, the RSSLO route in TS only came with the *Vectron, which was a little disappointing. There are other locos and EMUs available as separate purchases but they tend to only give one loco per route, unfortunately.

    EDIT - Vectron, not Taurus!

The ÖBB1293 001-080 and if RSSLO were to make Karawanken Bahn Ljubljana Jesenice section for TSW2 you are likely to get ÖBB 1293 freight locomotive Mix traffic locomotive SZ541 Taurus the related Austrian version ÖBB1216 SZ813/814 EMU. DLC SZ363 SNCF BB7200 15000 & 22200 NS1600 family Yugoslav cousin Code C DC then SZ510 Flirt EMU Code K AC/DC EMU.

Why not make SZ541 OBB 1216 as your mixed traffic locomotive. Furthermore, SZ541 does the Nightjet duty on this route the 07:12 Jesenice 08:25 Ljubljana. Runs via Arlberg & Tauernbahn lines. SZ541 ES64U4 can spawn on HMA as an Augsburg Gbf freight to Ljubljana Zalog freight via Rbf Munchen Laim. OBB version runs SKA 21:39 Aachen 22:16 Koln Hbf Nightjet trip morning 06:58 Koln Hbf to Aachen Hbf 07:47

Solidarity with fellow TSW2 route wishful thinkers!

Rolling stock looks nice. I would like to see more pics of the route itself though.

Bit of a bump but having just purchased this route for TSC in the sale, I would definitely love to see it come to TSW.

The Karawanken Bahn. Own this made for TSW 3 with HMA RRO you can get the OBB 1293 to run on those routes. IRL OBB Baureihe 1293 173-200 SKA HRR Villach Sud-Antwerpen Noord via Aachen and Rotterdam Freight via Duisburg. Passenger duty SZ363 Ljublijana Jessenice want to run Villach Ljublijiana 1293 or 1216 (SZ541) both ways

Now that this thread was bumped i would just like to correct Rybnicki that Emona dosen't usually run on this route, but instead on Ljubljana - Maribor and than on Austrian part.

And for SŽ 342 it also isn't very often seen on this route as most loco hauled services on this route are driven by OBB Taurus.

    More you know ;)
