SPG, SMH, HSC: rain and snow timetable services are underpowered, impossible to accomplish. The slippery factor feels ridiculous as well, it is not a car on the icy road... its hundreds tons of steel rolling steel on steel, adhesion is enormous even in winter. Lots of services are impossible to accomplished in snow and rain. There should be some pushers aside to attach them for extra power at least...
have you got banking comm turned on before touching anything else. I just tried out an ethanol train on sherman hill (13000+ tons) and I'm getting 18mph going uphill from cheyenne to laramie in a winter storm. You will get wheelslip at notch 8 at 18mph, but that does not affect the train at all. Dropping notches will cause you to lose speed, so keep it at 8 even if it gives you wheelslip cuz it has no effect on the train. Start off doing a hillstart. Notch 2, slowly release independent and you will start moving. apply notch by notch as you speed up and you should be able to move. Remember with most american freight, your max speed is limited to 30mph if you want dynamic brakes to be effective. Going uphill, you will go slow, but you won't stall.
I have found that on sand patch in particular. It’s ok until you get to the really steep bit just before the summit and no amount of sand and feathering the throttle will keep it going even with banking comm on and all locomotives working.
Matt recently found this out during the weekend charity stream. He had to slow for a speed/signal restriction up a grade and stalled out in light rain. In his consist he had just enough HP to get up the grade in clear sunny weather.
It’s particularly annoying with the dynamic weather. I really love the dynamic weather but when it goes from sunny and dry to a snowstorm before you’ve made it to the summit, it can be tricky to finish.
Rein Ruhr Osten with tankers is interesting, impossible to climb during rain, and that's with a Br155. There should be an option to run with 2 or 3 locos in the loco selection screen.
