Hey all, TrainGeek08 here, and today I'm suggesting the Snow Hill Lines for TSW3 as it would be nice to have a 172 in game and this is probably the best candidate for that to occur ;)

    Stock included in base route:

The British Rail Class 172 'Turbostar' DMU

And the British Rail Class 168 'Clubman' DMU

    Training (In Training Center):
    Class 168 Introduction
    Class 172 Introduction

    Scenarios:
    Stratford Turbo: (Difficulty - 1)
Drive a WMR 172 from Stratford-upon-Avon to Birmingham Moor Street as night falls...

Chiltern to Kidderminster? (Difficulty - 3)
Drive a CR 168 from Birmingham Moor Street to Kidderminster during a violent thunderstorm in the Birmingham area

West Midlands Rescue: (Difficulty - 3)
A 172 has broken down at Whitlocks End, drive a WMR 172 from Dorridge into Birmingham, then switch cabs and get to Whitlocks End to retrieve our failed 172 friend ;)

    Rare Service: (Difficulty - 2)
Drive this CR 168 from Birmingham Moor Street to Stratford-upon-Avon on a rare service which doesn't run that often

    Tyseley Switching: (Difficulty - 1)
Sandbox scenario where you can play about with some 172s or 168s stored in the depot

    Timetable:
    2019 Working Timetable

Potential DLC, Layers & Stations coming up on Page 2...

    Page 2:

    Potential DLC:

The British Rail Class 68 'Cat/Growling Beast' diesel locomotive with Mk3 coaches + Mk3 DVT

    Training (In Training Center):
    Class 68 Introduction
    Mk3 DVT Introduction

    Scenarios:
    Kidderminster Express: (Difficulty - 1)
Drive this DVT from Kidderminster to Birmingham Moor Street on an express service only stopping at Stourbridge Junction

    Silver Replacement: (Difficulty - 2)
A 168 has arrived at Stourbridge LMD with a fault and something needs to run it's diagrams... Drive this 68 from Stourbridge to Kidderminster ECS

    A Helping Hand: (Difficulty - 2)
WMR's 172s are being refurbished and they don't have enough for the Snow Hill Lines today, so Chiltern have opted to help WMR and operate the services that the 172s would operate, there will be some 172s, but not all of them, with that in mind, drive this CR 68 from Dorridge to Birmingham Snow Hill on a stopping service

    Timetable:
Either incorporated into normal TT or seperate TT with 68 diagrams added to the original TT

    Layers:

    NTP - Class 47 + Mk2s + Class 47 on a railtour to/from Stratford-upon-Avon

    MML - HST (8+2) on a railtour to/from Kidderminster

    Stations:
Now, I had some helpful feedback actually from AirbourneAlex on this, I am going to try this out, instead of listing every single station on the route, as it takes a) time for me to write and b) it can get boring for the reader after a while as it can drag on, I want your feedback on this too, what do you prefer, every station or only key stations? When you reply, be sure to answer that question as it would be gratefully appreciated ;)

    Birmingham Snow Hill:

    upload_2023-4-30_8-3-14.jpeg

Birmingham Snow Hill, also known as Snow Hill station, is a railway station in Birmingham City Centre. It is one of the three main city-centre stations in Birmingham, along with Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Moor Street. Snow Hill was once the main station of the Great Western Railway in Birmingham and, at its height, it rivalled New Street station with competitive services to destinations including London Paddington, Wolverhampton Low Level, Birkenhead Woodside, Wales and South West England. The station has been rebuilt several times since the first station at Snow Hill, a temporary wooden structure, was opened in 1852; it was rebuilt as a permanent station in 1871 and then rebuilt again on a much grander scale during 1906–1912. The electrification of the main line from London to New Street in the 1960s saw New Street favoured over Snow Hill, most of whose services were withdrawn in the late 1960s. This led to the station's eventual closure in 1972 and its demolition five years later. After fifteen years of closure, a new Snow Hill station, the present incarnation, was built; it reopened in 1987.

    Birmingham Moor Street:

Birmingham Moor Street, also known as Moor Street station, is one of three main railway stations in the city centre of Birmingham, England, along with Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Snow Hill. Today's Moor Street station is a combination of the original station, opened in 1909 by the Great Western Railway as a terminus for local trains, and a newer Moor Street station with through platforms, a short distance from the original, which opened in 1987, replacing the original. The two were combined into one station in 2002, when the original was reopened and restored, and the newer station rebuilt in matching style.

    Dorridge:

Dorridge railway station serves the village of Dorridge in the West Midlands of England. The station is served by Chiltern Railways, who manage the station, and also by West Midlands Trains. It is situated 10+1⁄2 miles (16.9 km) south of Birmingham Snow Hill.

    Whitlocks End:

Whitlocks End railway station is a railway station on the North Warwickshire Line located next to, and named after the hamlet of Whitlock's End in the West Midlands of England. It lies a short distance from several villages: Tidbury Green and the new village of Dickens Heath in the West Midlands, and Major's Green and Hollywood in Worcestershire. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Trains.

    Stratford-upon-Avon:
    upload_2023-4-30_8-7-32.jpeg

Stratford-upon-Avon railway station is the southern terminus of the North Warwickshire Line and Leamington-Stratford line, serving the town of Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, England. The station is served by West Midlands Trains (WMT) and Chiltern Railways.

    Stourbridge Junction:

Stourbridge Junction is one of two railway stations serving the town of Stourbridge, in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in the West Midlands, England. It lies on the Birmingham to Worcester via Kidderminster Line and is the junction for the Stourbridge Town Branch Line, said to be the shortest operational branch line in Europe. The other station serving Stourbridge is Stourbridge Town at the end of the branch line.

    Kidderminster:

Kidderminster railway station is the main station serving the large town of Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England and the wider Wyre Forest district. The station is operated by West Midlands Trains, and is on the Birmingham to Worcester via Kidderminster Line. Regular commuter services run to Birmingham and Worcester, with several direct daily services to/from London Marylebone. It shares its station approach with the adjacent Severn Valley Railway station.

That's it for this one folks, hope you enjoyed it, put your thoughts below on this one, I hope this one comes to TSW in the future, anyway, I've been TrainGeek08 as usual, enjoy the rest of your day and I'll see you later, goodbye ;)

A good suggestion! A good pair of new units and also a 68 would be class. Could even add some static layers from spirit of steam at Kidderminster Town station

Oh yes, that would be nice actually, maybe a 8F or even the new 4F from Peak Forest would be nice as static stock at the SVR ;)

Hi TrainGeek08 good suggestion again, only having pictures of the principal stations definitely helps IMO, but you could still add other pictures like route maps, special trains and scenery relevant to the route to mix it up a bit more. Interestingly this is one of the few routes in the UK that sees regular steam railtours (operated by Vintage Trains based at Tyseley depot) which run down to Stratford-upon-Avon and back to Birmingham Moor Street as the 'Shakespeare Express' trains. That would be a unique selling point in itself; being able to run steam trains at mainline speeds on a modern route.

I made a similar suggestion a while back if you would like to read (North Warwickshire Lines | Dovetail Games Forums) although admittedly I got a bit carried away with the details and it could have been much more concise (and it needs more pictures!) :)

Yeah, maybe as DLC, a Vintage Trains themed pack with Clun Castle, Earl of Mount Edgcombe and 47773 included would be nice :)

Oh definitely, that is a nice idea but I'll have a think about it, totally agree with the stations though, before it was every station but listing principal stations looks and seems better in a suggestion, thanks for the idea in the first place ;)

Great suggestion mate, both the 168s and 172s are apparently fairly decent units, though I have never travelled on either of them.

Bring it on and I'm wondering if you can merge this with the existing Cross City Line if applicable to do so and make the common origin Point London Euston or London Marylebone

Thanks, would love this route in game, shows a different side of Birmingham compared to Cross City

To answer your question, sadly not, as this route goes through Snow Hill and Moor Street whereas Cross City goes through New Street, so sadly this can't merge with Cross City I'm afraid ;)

Assume both would be seen at New Street on other routes so could be added as AI layers though?

Get it now but in order to merge them the Camp Hill line must be made and you will show up around King's Norton on BCC

You might get away with a 172 at New Street on BCC on the Malvern/Hereford/Worcester services as player services but on SHL you can't see New Street to my knowledge from the Snow Hill Lines as you go through Moor Street and Snow Hill ;)

Well, that's an option for a potential merge between the two Birmingham routes without having to go anywhere near London whatsoever :)

Good suggestion and one modern route I wouldn’t hesitate to get, especially if it comes with a Class 68! Does anyone know what DTG’s licensing position is with Chiltern?

That's a good question actually Vern, maybe DTG JD or DTG Matt can help us out with that one regarding the license with Chiltern ;)

Oh yes, a 172 does sound different to your average Turbostar as well, it sounds more like a CAF DMU (195-197) ;)

Yeh also you have a variety of different units 3 car 4 car and 5 car depending on how busy it is if there's football games you usually have a 5 car service and people travelling to and from Birmingham which it's usually a busy line

You are correct if that were happen we can have TSC Chiltern Mainline remade for TSW3 and merge with this route Birmingham to Worcester via Kidderminster using Birmingham Snow Hill as the common origin point to merge both routes. Birmingham to Worcester via Bromsgrove exists as BCC

Another great suggestion and write-up. As others suggested it would be cool to see AI steam layered into the SVR at Kidderminster, perhaps including access to the line for gala transfers, visiting power, etc.

Totally, 8Fs, 4Fs, Jubilees at Kidderminster Town would be great, even if they are AI traffic and go in/out of a portal, that would add to the immersion at Kidderminster station :)
