So How Hot Should My Laptop Be Running?

I've had my laptop for almost 2 years now, so it's not that old, but since I bought it I've been concerned about the GPU temperatures that Task Manager is showing me (85-87 degrees Celsius).

Task Manager doesn't show me CPU temperature.

Interestingly, when I play TSW, the GPU temperature shoots up to about 85 degrees Celsius but then stays there for the rest of the session. Since this has been happening since I got the laptop, I assumed it would be ok (also my mind wanders by the time I get round to questioning it).

But the feeling that I'm overheating it never leaves me (even after some Googling)... Especially since the area between the keyboard and screen gets fairly hot to touch.

So here I am. Am I ok to run the laptop at 85 degrees, or should I drop my graphics settings and aim for a lower temperature? Is task manager even a reliable source of temperature?

I have no knowledge of computers, and my only resolution if mine goes wrong is the classic on and off, but I would reckon that if it is hot enough that it is concerning you the chances are something isn't quite right. Apart from that I am about as useful as broken a dustpan without a brush.

I was worried about mine to start with. It’s constantly at 80 - 90 degrees when playing intensive games.

I watched some YouTube and did some searching and the general consensus was it’s fine under 90 degrees for gaming sessions and I shouldn’t worry even if it occasionally hits 95 degrees (it never does though). It’s lasted a few years now and isn’t showing any signs of any problems.

Modern PC’s will thermal throttle if they get close to being too hot to protect themselves. So I wouldn’t worry.
