Hello. It has been said that Amtrak has, in the past, been willing to work with DTG on access to equipment for sound recording, and that other freight carriers in the US have generally denied access, presumably due to regulations or liability concerns. Amtrak has a large fleet of GE P42 locomotives that have an engine that is identical to the AC4400 and the C40-8 locomotives in Train Sim World. I recently had a chance to listen to a P42 idling with HEP turned off and it sounded identical to an AC4400 (and other freight locomotives which have the FDL16 engine, such as the C40-8) at low idle. They also have a nearly indistinguishable sound when at notch 8. With this in mind, I think it would be great if the Dovetail team looked into sourcing new and improved sounds for the GE freight engines in the game by means of Amtrak.
It is my understanding that the P32AC-DMs have the 12-cylinder engine, but the P42's which are most common have the 16-cylinder engine like the freight engines which is how they are able to be rated at 4250 horsepower while the P32 with its 12-cylinder engine is only rated at 3200
The P42DC does have a 7FDL16 same as the C40-8W and the AC4400CW. So it could be used as a stand-in for the freight locos that have 7FDL16's
