The South Devon Mainline is a line which goes from Exeter to Plymouth, but this suggestion will not only include the line itself, but also multiple branch lines that can be found for passenger services. It was originally built in 1849 to Brunel's 7-foot gauge which was unique to the standard gauge which existed on other lines. During the 1990s you could find a wide range of rolling stock in multiple different liveries, some were still in standard BR Blue while others were a mix of Network southeast, Intercity, and Regional railways. I think this route would be good due to the following reasons: - We dont have a Valenta-engine HST yet for any BR routes. - The class 50 is iconic and this would be a nice and long route to run it on. - There are multiple different types of services which run along it from freight, fast, semi-fast, and regional (even the odd charter). - Its a route which includes Network Southeast, Intercity and Regional railways trains in their liveries running all along the same line. Length: Total Length; 137km Exeter-Plymouth; ~84km Branch to Paignton; ~12km Branch to Exmouth; ~18km Branch to Gunnislake; ~23km Stations: Total Stations; 29 Exeter to Plymouth; 10 -Exeter St Davids -Exeter St Thomas -Starcross -Dawlish Warren -Dawlish -Teignmouth -Newton Abbot -Totnes -Ivybridge -Plymouth Branch to Paignton; 3 -Torre -Torquay -Paignton Branch to Exmouth; 8 -Exeter Central -St James Park -Polsloe Bridge -Topsham -Exton -Lympstone Commando -Lympstone Village -Exmouth Branch to Gunnislake; 8 -Devonport -Dockyard -Keyham -St Budeaux Victoria Road -Bere Ferrers -Bere Alston -Calstock -Gunnislake Depots: Exeter St Davids Depot Laira Diesel Depot Trains: New Stock: Reworked Class 43 with Valenta Engines (Intercity) - Passenger Class 155 (Regional Railways) - Passenger Reused Stock: Class 08 (BR Blue & Intercity Reskin & Network Southeast Reskin)(NTP) - Shunter Improved Class 150 (Regional Railways)(WCL) - Passenger Class 47 (BR Blue & Intercity Reskin & Network Southeast Reskin & Railfreight Reskin)(NTP) - Passenger & Freight Class 37 (BR Blue & Railfreight)(WCL & TVL) - Freight Class 20 (Railfreight) - Freight Layered Stock: Class 101 (BR Blue)(NTP) - Passenger Steam Railtours (SoS & PF) - Charter DLC: Class 50 (BR Blue & Network Southeast) - Passenger & Freight LAMP: L: We already have British rail and Regional railways in the game, and we only need other old liveries such as intercity and network southeast. I cant imagine licensing would be an issue. A: People have wanted a class 50 as well as improvements to the class 150 which could and should go along with this route. M: Because of all the branch lines there are many different types of services that can be done on this route as well as many on the mainline itself. All done on the many different trains that can be driven, some of which already exist in the game. P: The Dawlish coastline is famous. HSTs would have their original Valenta engines that are iconic. And a very scenic route in general. *Most of these trains can be added to WCL as layers in future if Rivet ever wants to go back to it. (Including the improved class 150 which should be included free into WCL without needing this route). Good suggestion. It looks interesting with some mixed variety of stock which I like. Would be something I would purchase.
would love to see that happen, but im unsure whether dovetail can do it since its rivet who made the route. And I still think this would be better route due to the run along the coastline and the additional traffic
Did the 155's work in the south west? I'm not super well versed in the south west stock before about 2010
In the dawlish video I linked at the end of my post one of them passed by and another stopped. the rest of the DMUs seem to be first gen these are timestamps though: it passed at 12:42 the stopping service stopped at 15:25
They were based at Cardiff and worked to Birmingham, Crewe, Portsmouth and the West Country (while their doors were working anyway). The units were later split and converted to Class 153.
