The 68-mile-long Tehachapi Pass is part of SP's (now UP's) main line between the LA area and northern CA. The rugged mountainous line has steeper grades and lots of curves and tunnels. The line is mostly single track with passing sidings. The most famous part of the line is the siding at Walong, aka: the Tehachapi Loop. Trains on the loop often cross over or under themselves. The line is a headache for train crews, but a great place for railfanning. Both SP and ATSF have freight yards in Mojave and Bakersfield. The yards should also be included, along with local industries. Mojave is also the start of SP's Palmdale Cutoff that runs parallel to Cajon Pass. The Palmdale Cutoff should be added to the game too for Cajon Pass. Tehachapi Pass between the 1880s and 1996 was owned and operated by the Southern Pacific RR. The Santa Fe RR, in order to get their own trains to the San Francisco Bay Area, negotiated trackage rights with the SP. Today, BNSF still has trackage rights over the pass, along with UP. If we get a 1990s Tehachapi Pass route in game (which should happen), the route should include 2-3 of the following locomotives: -C44-9W in both ATSF and SP liveries -SP AC4400CW -GP60 Spartan Cab in both liveries -GP38-2 in both liveries -SP SD70M and ATSF SD75M -SP SD40T-2 and/or SD45T-2 -SP SD45R or SD40R -ATSF SD45-2U or SD45U -ATSF B40-8 and SP B39-8 -ATSF B40-8W As for new freight cars, we should see the following: -GATX TankTrain tank cars (for SP's Oil Can Trains) -ATSF and SP boxcars, flatcars, 2, 3, and 4-bay hoppers, cylindrical hoppers, and coal hoppers -Intermodal well cars and spine cars -Articulated autoracks
