At the entry to the South Fork siding, encountered inter alia in the "Pushed Aside" scenario. The entry signal to the interlocking shows a Restricting aspect, red over yellow. Restricting is consistently 15 mph within interlocking limits across NS, including former Conrail territory. But the game dumps a surprise, unmarked, un-HUD warned TEN mph speed limit on you! This is the kind of sloppy inattention to detail which is the exasperation of even TSW's most loyal fans.
Speed limits throughout the game are a terrible guessing game, especially when you have a slight speed drop followed closely by a massive one. If you're not constantly pausing the game to look into the menu, you will get hit by many of these. Speed signs are also a hit-or-miss situation and that doesn't even get to the rolling stock limitations.
Agreed, I'm also pausing the game to see what speeds to expect 8 kilometers ahead, especially during heavy freight train runs. I think there's a HUD element you can enable, top-right, that tells you the next speed. I'm not a fan of the HUD, the driving indications can be read off the loco's instruments anyways. And to be honest, the driving plan information could be shown in a single overlay window. I'd love to have all the streckenkilometer (for german trains), speed limits, stops, arrival/departure times, etc, shown on a more condensed timetable overlay view when pressing T, similar to a buchfahrplan. That would be much more useful than having all this information scattered around on the escape button pause screen or flashing at you on the HUD. That would almost make up for not having an EBuLa on the MFD
The HUD only gives you the next speed so if there is another reduction right after you still get little or no warning. Obviously when you learn the route you know what to expect but the shortcomings of the HUD have been raised previously but no response from DTG.
to be honest, especially with US rail, you HAVE to KNOW your route. Every signal, every speed restriction, everything. Incase there are no wayside markers, cab signaling, etc. All of which at anytime can fail. You you must know your route. A game whos HUD doesnt really catch a quick restriction like that is well...something iwould say could be normal. Why? well if its to be a sim, just like irl, you gotta learn.
You mean something like this #shamlessplugno2: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/buchfahrplan-tool-for-dresden-–-chemnitz.52161/ Thing is that a lot of things have to fall into place in order to create it for a specific DLC. Maybe we get down to create one for BRO…
That's fair enough, but doesn't in this case justify an outright mistake: that S/L should be 15, not 10, in keeping with the signaled speed.
Quick question...is there a special-instruction 10 MPH speed limit on the South Fork siding? Signal speeds and timetabled siding speeds don't always match-up, and the more restrictive of the two prevails.
