Is there a way of telling when every new speed limit kicks in? E.g. on Bakerloo I am within 32km/h limit and I see that 48km/h kicks in in 100 meters - I slowly start accelerating, but very often find myself speeding even though the higher speed should already be allowed (so I brake only only to see that 'now' I can go faster). Am I missing something, i.e. is there a set time for the speed limit to come into effect, or I just have to wait patiently until it does?

You have to get the "whole" train, passed the start of the new speed limit. Wait till the marker on the speed gauge moves.

Thanks, that actually makes a lot of sense. I remembered that sometimes the new speed limit would set very quickly, but maybe that was on Sand Patch Grade when I was only moving a loco :D

The thing with North American trains, you might be waiting a "Long" time before you can try to get the train to the new track speed LOL
