I guess, this is a glitch in the planed missions:

One Stanier 8F should pull 30 over loaded wagons (680 tons ++) ... hmhh.
I tried to pull the 30 loaded wagons for 50 minutes - meter by meter. (Back + pressing, full throttle ... until the wheels spin (sand used of course) ... +3m - if I were lucky - ... then again and again).

In the end ... after a lot of derails (in the first part of the mission) and tries (in both missions), the mission (8:20 Freighttrain) failed - and I give it up -, ... because the whole train was sliding (all wheels blocked) backwards over a red light. Close to the end point. ... This feels like a joke ... a bad one. And on my (/our) costs.

... ... no doubt about it: heavily overloaded :(

UPDATE: Didn't give up, and won gold ... but it was very very hard (steam pressure, flaps, regulator, torque, speed, sand ... a lot of sand ... more sand than the worst golfer saw in his sports life) ... still it doesn't felt "correct" . Even if this is a minor thing ... a train that can't start moving or stops on a 1,5 km long 0.8 - 1.0% slope - well: is much to heavy.

Not to mention that it slided like 400m backwards, just because I tried to respect the speed limit ... and the loco wasn't able to cope with the last slope.
(Ignored the speed limit mostly on the last try.)

UPDATE #2: I found out, that the problem is also the fact, that the brakes of the most cars are engaged. You have to pull a hidden "rope" under each (yeah each!) car to release them. These are the vacuum brakes, which seem not to be connected to the loco (which also uses vacuum brakes).

Never tested yet, if I can drive this train by releasing all brakes manually ... and - more important - stop it. :/

Seems still a bug for me. At least, the row of the cars should be changed, so you can release the vacuum brakes of the cars with the loco :/

Update #3: Nope: You can't drive this train safely, bakres don't work on the full train, I guess only on the first cars. ><
