This is in Train Sim Classic 2024. I went into Standard scenarios expecting they would be the same as the Career scenarios but without the performance monitoring (as the manual states) but there is only one scenario in the list. Something by RailFan I think. Have I missed something somewhere? How do I populate the list? Thanks for any help.
Some DLCs only come with Career Scenarios. You can download TSTools and convert a scenario into a Standard one. You can also clone a route in the editor and thereby make it a Standard one. If you purchase JT products per se they are usually Standard. You can also switch off Standard scoring (in the options menu) and TSC will ignore scoring completely. You have many options. Regards PS Railfan is a just watch the action scenario. Also do not make the mistake of thinking TSC is like TSW. It has much more capability and you have the ability to do almost anything when you know how. You can swap locos. You can create Quick Drive Scenarios with any consist you want. With TSC you take the purchased DLC and can do whatever you like.
There are quite a few websites that have Free Scenarios for most routes. Try this one for a start - https://alanthomsonsim.com/scenarios/ And the Workshop for TSC 2024 - https://steamcommunity.com/app/24010/workshop/ Some scenarios will require stock from other routes or third party providers.
Thank you both for your help, plenty to go with there. I'm a beginner in this and haven't made any assumptions regarding TSW and TSC.
Just been having a browse of those websites. They look like great fun, many thanks. Will be trying a few out later.
I've downloaded York to Liverpool from Alan Thompson's website. I've extracted the directories as per the readme file and run the bat file as the web page instructs, but I can't see the scenario in TSC 2024. Can anyone give me any pointer please?
Please provide link of ATS product and I will check my end - thx. There are multiple entries. Is this the TPE Merge?
https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/sub-only-1f56-0839-york-to-liverpool/ I've got a feeling it may be a bit more than just a straightforward download and manual copy of the files. It mentions certain requirements that I've assumed were included in the download. Thanks for your reply.
Ok let’s start with the Basics. Each ‘Route’ purchased creates a folder under ‘Contents’ where the files will be saved. If you do not have this ‘Route’ the files will be saved under this folder structure however since the routes is most likely not purchased then you will not see it when you run TSC2024. I am guessing you do not own ATS Chatmoss. If you do have it and do not have the other requirements then you will be able to run the scenario however you will see failures of certain types. Welcome to free scenarios. You can swap assets out using Locoswap. Alternatively as you build up your collection you will already have these. All Steam DLCs come with needed content. 3rd Party stuff requires you to add other assets. Hope this helps
Requirements: Alan Thomson Sim (and their dependencies): – Class 185; – 09 Series Ballast Tamper; – IIA biomass wagons; – Chat Moss. ROUTE Armstrong Powerhouse (and their dependencies): – Signal EP; – Weather EP V2.0; – Class 66 EP; – Class 150/1 EP; – Class 150/2; – Class 156; – Class 319 Vol 1; – JNA-C hoppers. Major Wales Design (and their dependencies): – Class 390 Revamp. FREE Steam: – ZCA Sea Urchins (for TSR boards).
Umm, well first, thanks for your help. I'll have a look at this and see how I get on. This might be a bit convoluted for me at the moment. I'm pretty sure I don't have that ATS thing you mention. I just want to have a bit of fun driving a irtual train, I've only just started and don't really have the desire to do manual installs. I'm not hung up on that scenario. Are there any more straightforward ones I could try and is there a way to identify them? Thanks again.
Best to start off with Steam DLCs whilst the sales are on. Those self download and are fully contained.
I agree. Start with the things on sale right now on Steam. There are a few exceptions to items being self-contained (mainly Just Trains scenarios that require the Euro Loco and Asset Pack - and BTW, DO NOT buy that or the American one, they come with many routes and are standard with the original routes from 2009!), and locos will typically require one or more routes, but Steam is usually pretty good with not having too many requirements. Meaning you will find a lot you can play out of the box. AP and ATS are NOT "out of the box" and all will require something on Steam in all but the rarest cases (one AP train has scenarios on the ATS Chat Moss, though Steam items are in scenario requirements anyway since they are needed for enhancement packs and for Chat Moss as well). The Workshop is a tremendous place for you to search. Look up the site from Warwick Rail at https://www.railsims.com/TS/ts-menu.php amd you will find many options for scenarios quite easily. For instance, a couple of clicks around there and here are scenarios for Bristol to Exeter (which includes both asset packs BTW but is an older version of Southwestern Expressways - and while you're here, get the ones from before Reading was added and run them on the Reading route by putting them in the Reading route folder). Got the Chatham Main Line? Here is London-Gillingham, Medway Valley Line, and the Dover/Ramsgate extension (note that the London-Gillingham section is included with BOTH extensions, but there is no full bundle that I am aware of as yet with Medway and Dover/Ramsgate shared on a route, making a Workshop merge the only option if it exists). Looking for America? Here is Feather River Canyon - and also the HIS version with a slightly longer route. Or maybe you want Sherman Hill. Well over 400 options there. What about Steven's Pass? And Marias Pass? There is also a Marias merge with the Montana route to Havre in there (Workshop route). Definitely consider these options as they are BNSF and BNSF was once barred outside of America, from 2015 to late 2021. I helped with that push to get them back, and while I will not take personal credit for their return, I do think the general push from newer players did contribute to that happening. So play them and also try the various BNSF trains we have. Germany? Here is Dresden-Leipzig. This route extended Dresden-Riesa which has a different route ID, but all scenarios can be put into the other's folder and they should work. Or maybe you want to visit Munich; Go to Augsburg, Rosenheim, or Garmisch Partenkirchen (the last of which I published videos on for the included scenarios, in fact). There are also merge options, including this one with Augsburg and Garmisch Partenkirchen on the same map (new route ID, new scenario list). You can also go from Munich all the way to Innsbruck on another merge (a Garmisch to Innsbruck route is the other half of it, and again, feel free to place all Workshop scenarios into the merge as all should generally work). And that gets me to Workshop routes. Danny's South London to Brighton (route) is one of the most popular (over 1,000 scenarios between that and the source routes alone), as is the DPS ECML North East (route) which extends to Middlesbrough. Danny also initially made travel from London Victoria to Faversham and Sheerness possible, and scenarios use it - though the new Chatham Main Line route now includes Sheerness anyway (new version, not the other one), but these still exist should you get the older version of the route. That's more than enough from me. But try looking up Japan, Austria, Switzerland, and even Canada while searching (saying that way since I am Canadian! ). Here is a map of the DPS ECML route to Middlesbrough to pique your interest. And if you like that, pop by DPSimulation and pick up North East England to continue to Nunthorpe, or detour to Sunderland, or even head from Darlington to Bishop Auckland. Worth noting Wearsdale Teesdale lets you see stuff from the 60s around the Bishop Auckland area and connecting lines, too - and yes, find that on WR's site too (in addition to an old Bishop Auckland to Darlington route via Just Trains). If you later gets Train Sim World, you can also see Darlington through Middlesbrough all the way to Saltburn - and there is even an old UKTS route I can tell you about in the future, though I can't comment on the quality as I have yet to play it. And last mote: get Barnstaple to Exeter while at DPS. It's in the BHBP route, but that one has some more exotic requirements, so the DPS version might be a nice intro.
Hope it's OK to ask my silly questions on this thread but I think they are sort of relevant. When there's a scenario that states a load of requirements, presumably they are not included in the scenario and need to be found and downloaded separately?
Brilliant post Cyclone, thanks very much. I'm going to start slowly. In the Steam Workshops I can't see a price for many, just a Subscribe button. Are they free? I need to ensure I don't run up a bill - it's all so easy!
The Workshop stuff is free. Some are great some may cause a problem with your session. It depends on how well they were put together. The Workshop is where other users have published their own creations. If you ‘subscribe’ you effectively download this route/scenario to your pc. I tend to not use them as I know in the past others have experienced issues. Provided you rely on a specific authors handiwork you should be good. I have expanded my collection to include 100% AP, 100% ChrisTrains, 100% JustTrains. These vendors are very good at what they do. They make the high end TSC product and are equivalent to TSW (without the current stutters). I see it this way. Step A - Purchase Steam DLCs Step B - Check out some free workshop stuff and delete any you find causing issues (be aware that Workshop stuff can overwrite good files - you can always bring back to current by resyncing Steam files) Step C - Investigate 3rd party items of desire paying particular notice of requirements. Some of these allow you to run a full 400 miles end to end connected route scenarios. I keep my website up to date with maps showing what is available. Respectfully
Yes. Scenarios never include content. For science - the most a scenario can do is add some assets, i.e. update tiles. Some people add decorations, or old station platforms. If you browse workshop in-game, it will filter to what you have installed. So you're good to start. Other sources - be it workshop on the web, or 3rd party stuff - is often a trigger to check out other content. Usually, add some trains to your collection to have a fully versatile scenario. There is a trick - F2 dismisses any dialog (by overriding it and requesting your verification to save). If you download a scenario and you own the so-called player train, just miss a few assets, the game will QQ (if it's essential such as a train) but you can press F2, Cancel and play it. Of course the affected services will be missing and occasionally it's a problem.
Imagine a situation where the track is blocked ahead due to a faulty signal. They want to get it fixed before letting you go. You might see some workmen hanging out near the signal "working". This can be done in the Workshop. Assets come from a required route, most likely, but could involve a marketplace asset pack. Be aware that some exotic stuff can get into the Workshop. Example: I redid a London-Peterborough scenario that cannot be achieved with a maximum score. The remake allows for a perfect score, due to an adjusted timetable, and just for shiggles I added the AP 365. Since it is a reskin of the included 365, the Workshop permits it (heck, I've seen special HST reskins like the 7 Cities one in there occasionally). However, if you try to post a scenario that uses the AP 321 instead of the 320 included with Suburban Glasgow (note that the 320 and 322 are part of the AP locomotive package as well), it will not work because it's not a reskin, but a full new locomotive folder. So some scenarios may have things like this. As noted by others, Workshop content is free. You choose to buy anything needed to run the scenario. Routes are also free, but you need the requirements. Either may run without certain owned assets, but if critical items are missing you just can't play the route or scenario; those that work will have lots of milk scattered about as you travel, or trains missing. One more thing. Install your Workshop subscriptions MANUALLY. Don't let the game do it. Subscribe to some scenarios, then head to Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\24010 in your Program Files area. You will find a numbered folder for each item you subscribe to. Open the ZIP file (if it's an older format from 2012-13 - which changed that October around the GEML release and definitely before Riviera - you may need WinRAR to scan those ones) and drag the Content folder to your RW directory; it will merge with your existing Content folder. If it's a situation where, say, a SW Expressways scenario WITHOUT Reading is installed to the Reading version, you'll need to dig even further into the route folder in both the archive and your RW section and drag the Scenarios folder in there (otherwise it will install to something you don't have and might stick there even if you try to move it). The advantage of this is that you don't have to deal with the Workshop tab as you can unsubscribe from everything right after installing and have a clean list. Why does this matter? Installing multiple scenarios at once automatically can and WILL mess up those scenarios (routes are not affected AFAIK but I do it with them too). This is why I have a collection of what must be over 20,000 scenarios by now, and the additional advantage for me is that I have some deleted scenarios I can play whenever I want even though they are not there now.
Thanks for all your replies. I've just had cataract surgery to it'll be a couple of days before I can really get into this. Really appreciated.
Thank you. Is there a website or admin support link, I can't find one and I'm not getting any email notifications. I've checked in my profile and it all looks right but nothing.
Replies to or watched forum posts. For example this post. I have to come to the forum to check for replies rather than get an email notification.
Something we all have to do And coming back to the forum means you might spot something you did not know about.
I'm happy to come back to the forum anyway. So premably the options in Preferences that provide for email notifications aren't working, or am I not reading them properly?
As I said in the previous post Coming back to this forum is something we all have to do. I have been here since Dec 2016 and I have never received any email notifications for any new post.
I used Locoswap to change a Bigboy loco to Smokebox's Bigboy loco in a career scenario. Now that scenario will no longer record a score. Is there a way to fix this or can you not change locos in career scenarios because this is considered cheating?
If you are referring to an official scenario that comes with a DLC, I would not tinker with them directly. However, related to swapping stock: I would open the scenario in the editor at a bare minimum and get all the properties of the swapped item into the editor so that the game can rewrite any such thing into the save file. I've also heard that BMG locos do not swap cleanly with the Kuju variants (Black 5 for instance), so you might even have to replace the driver locomotive manually in this case in the editor (others might be fine since they are AI). If you want to modify a Career scenario in the actual DLC, clone the scenario and swap that stock. I will note there IS a way to get that to count for scoring purposes (heck, you can even just modify the scoring mechanics in the simplest cases, and I have done this for scenarios that fail the "perfect score" test), but where a scenario can be completed with a perfect score, it's best just to clone and play with the other loco. It doesn't matter if you play it as Career or Standard; just play it as a separate scenario. BTW, you CAN modify Standard scenarios. I have had to edit a WCML North scenario (I think it was Polmadie Hop) that had problems, and those were not packed in an AP file so are easy to change. Career scenarios are still blocked, however; Scots Pine is a known problem scenario if you are not done within a set amount of time; a service arriving at Lockerbie will eventually crash into some wagons after being misrouted, otherwise. I think I posted a video of that scenario. (EDIT: Nope, turns out I didn't, but I did confirm from another video that it's the ICN5 service which you may see while arriving at Kingmoor; that video had the AI crash at 11:58:49. Try to finish by 11:58:00.) And I won't even get into the horribly mistimed Class 86 scenarios; even going at an unrealistically quick pace, it's impossible to make the final stop even five minutes off schedule.
