I know , I know, this may sound a bit heretic to some, as TSW aims to have "every train and every route" accessible. But I came across an idea when driving the San Bernardino route on my old PS4 recently. Compared to the PS5 version, the routes are of course empty, as all the freight and also some traffic around LAUPT is missing.

Then I thought, wait a second, at least for STATIC stock, it would be possible to include some freight (cars and locos) in the yards as part of the scenery. That would mean they are not considered to be "loco" or "car" assets but rather a normal scenery asset like a car or a tree or a house. Just sitting there, without detailed and functional interior. I have never heard that cars or trees or a houses would cause performance issues.

Would this be a way forward to keep Gen8 at least a bit immersive. Yes, the downside is that you cannot play around with those assets. But who stops to fiddle with every parked loco or freight wagon when playing a service. Even the diesel exhaust from locos should be possible, as there are chimneys etc. in the game.

    What do you thinkl?

Even static stock would take up a lot of memory, although not as much.

I suppose it'd be a matter of layering in what takes up the least space whilst ensuring there's enough.

Thanks. Yes, I heard Matt say that static stock also takes up a lot of power. In particular introducing a new type of loco, etc.

That's why I was thinking about adding a static loco not as a loco but rather as just another piece of scenery. Like a car or a house.

What is the motivation for playing TSW on PS4? If TSW was available on PS3 or PS2, would you play it on PS2?

Perhaps the PS5 wasn't available when they first bought TSW, or it was and they already owned a PS4 and didn't think it was worth upgrading to PS5.
