Im still using Steam under Windows 7, which works perfectly fine also with TSW. Just wanted to warn other users from purchaising DLCs in the middle of TSW Updates! I bought the S-Bahn Frankfurt DLC while steam updated my TSW. For some reason a "Redistributables Pack" was created, which is not compatible for some reason. My pruchais seems to have changed something in the download source, which steam cant finde anymore since the Redistributable is not compatible with win7, also Support wont help since Win7 isnt supported anymore. Basicly now im Stuck and have to wait for TSW6, which im sure will work. Im Sure there might be a few other players still running TSW on a older PC, so be careful.
Using Windows 7 in 2025? Expecting TSW6 to fix it? Good bait post, because surely you aren't actually serious.
Hate to be that guy, but you really shouldn't be using unsupported operating systems for anything that requires internet. Even if you absolutely can not get a new PC you'd be better off ditching Windows and installing a Linux distro. Latter will get security updates for years to come, plus Steam has great support for it with Proton, I can attest that I've been playing TSW5 on Linux Mint and it runs as well as it did on Windows. I know that probably isn't what you want to hear, but you're putting yourself at far greater risks of viruses and hacking than on any supported OS. And I would be especially concerned if it's the same system you use to do all your important business like paying bills or banking. While Linux will undoubtably have a learning curve at least it's a solution that only costs a bit of time to research and install.
You'd be surprised, lots of people use OS' well past their official end of support, heck, my dad was one of the ones on 7 still till about a year or two back!
I'd say at a minimum get 8.1 or 10. Honestly looking at the minimum requirements for TSW, they clearly state they don't support 7 and noting that windows 10 will be supported by steam whilst dropping support for windows 7 back in January 2024. You can get ISOs online which offer a stripped back windows 10 if you're worried about bloatware and what not on a limited system.
Well my rig is 16 years old now, running tsw still smooth on the original motherboard. Made some updates on the hardware etc. Yes thanks for the answers also about safety concerns etc., not going to defend my total outdated approach with my system , thats something i know by my self. Its about my experience intercepting an update with a dlc purchais. Yes the installation of tsw 5 now fails on every attempt, while installing other games works perfect. Its time anyway for a new rig.
Fairly sure the Steam store front says only Windows 10 or higher is officially supported. If you have a legitimate copy of W7 Home Premium then you should be able to upgrade to W10 free of charge and if your hardware is compatible, or with a couple of bodges, W11 too as W10 will itself be out of M$ support later in the year and no doubt at some point the likes of Steam will follow suit.
Jump fast on W10 while it's still supported and upgradable for free. It's a safest OS and better than W7. You can even upgrade to W11 which will be supported for a while.
My understanding is that the loopholes that still allowed for free Windows 10 upgrades from 7 after the "official" deadline of 2016 were closed in 2023. The upgrade itself may run, but the Windows 7 key will not be accepted.
If you are using Windows, I would really suggest making the move to Windows 11. The last build of Win 10, Windows 10 22H2 is reaching end of life in October of this year. I may suggest either Windows 11 23H2 or 24H2 if you want to use Windows. Best to keep track of the Windows end of support life cycle map depending on which build of windows you go for. Anything below Windows 10 22H2 is not recommended in terms of security
The p6t deluxe board im using, doesnt have a chipset driver for win10, else i would just update to the newest one or win10. While the processor is still original, i have to turn the pc on via the motherboard directly. (The outside buttons on the case broke 5 years ago lol) Beside that and the thing with being outdated, tsw is running mostly very well on high settings. Just some tsw5 routes had a bit performance impact at some locations.
