I've nothing against them. We have the West Somerset of course but without steam locomotives. When (if) we ever see steam make an appearance on TSW I'm sure it will transform that route and give it some life. Most people are unhappy about the low speed on heritage lines which by law can't exceed 25 mph, in the UK at least. They are also restricted in the traffic on offer as most are strictly passenger only operations. There are the narrow gauge railways of Wales which would be very popular I'm sure as 20mph on the Ffestiniog for example feels more like 40mph on a standard gauge train. If steam ever comes to TSW, personally, I would prefer something set in the past recreating something lost rather than modelling a location in the present day pretending to be in the past if you know what I mean. We can visit heritage lines whenever we want, once this virus clears off. We can't nip out and visit the 1950s in the post war steam era when British Railways were building thousands of new steam locomotives for example. TSW could give us that experience.
We may start to see a few of these (and fictional routes too) when/if a route editor becomes available and people are able to make their own routes as they get used to how the tools work, I doubt anyone would jump into making a 60+ mile mainline route from the off!?! but then I'm not a route creator, so who knows!?
