After making only a cameo appearance on horseshoe curve and matt at some point in the past suggesting it was a future possibility and many new US routes forth coming will we finally see a GP7 or GP9 (highnose)?
The version of the GP9 on Oakville Sub is, arguably, the best NA loco in the game. Too bad it wouldn't look authentic on a US route, though I might turn a blind eye to it if it showed up as a reskin somewhere.
It's a fine representative of a GP9 diesel but it's not so much just being a US or Canadian loco it's wanting to see a HiGHNOSE gp7 or gp9 in game at some point. For example many of the mines on clinchfeild should have a gp7 for hoppercar shunting not a SD40 as currently provided. If you check the TSC you'll see gp7 highnose on that version but as always DTG limits the loco options for there TSW versions.
You're right of course. Any US railroad dlc of that era should have included a high nose GP7 or GP9. The 6 axle SD40 was a poor choice for switching duties.
This on top of the fact that at that time most mine owners wouldn't or couldn't spend that much on top of line power like a SD40.When a 2nd hand or perhaps new GP7 would more the fill the bill as a switcher. You make more by spending less.Or in this case DTG make more by including less(In there DLC).
DTG probably won't do it as they "cannot get references for said locos" or if they can, they can't get recordings of said loco at line speed cause the only ones they can get access to are museum pieces with limited speeds. Hate to say it but vintage stock is pretty much dead for US content for the time being....
What about the GP7 references and sounds for TSC? How were they sourced? Can they not be used in some way, like the reference material for the F7 was used for Cajon Pass?
You would think, since the F7 uses the same prime mover as an GP7 (16-567B) and the same style of trucks. You can't used the audio from the GP9RM as those were rebuilt with a 16-645C prime mover. Could also be the fact that Clinchfield sold so poorly (AFAIK) that DTG doesn't really want to make more vintage US stuff (The ATSF F7 seemed like just a quick way to make a loco pack for Cajon)
There technical already a GP9 in the game but it's just a trackside attraction. So what we need now is a working one.(Or a GP7 HN).
There are a fair number of first-gen Geeps on heritage railroads and even still working on some small RR.
