Stop Posting Entitlement "it Should Be Free Update" Posts Please!!

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by SD40Australia, Aug 22, 2023.

  1. Enough with the entitlement posts saying it should be free.

If you want something free, go make it yourself. There you go, it's free!!! Bye now!!

I'd love to see you self entitled "gamers" go and tell your boss you are giving them 8 hours of your labour for free!!!

The cost of 3 new gorgeous routes, a Flying Scotsman locomotive and updates plus route editor is very reasonably priced.

Many are saying in fact it is a good deal.

People complaining about people complaining is a bit odd just because it doesn't align with your views especially when that isn't the problem people have

When all three of the routes, well maybe the ECML I might have preferred a different section and era, are of interest plus the Flying Scotsman and other new features it’s a no brainier at the preorder discount price. I really can’t wait for 21st September to roll around.

I do agree that I don't get the it-should-be-free sentiment but people have the right to voice their opinion. People who hate what they saw probably facepalm with every positive post they read.

Most of the people complaining want things to be fixed and they have a point as well. I think everyone who will buy TSW4 just like me already know we will buy at least one bug that will only be addressed in TSW 5, 6 or even never.

Can we also stop with people telling us they are done with the game. We don’t need to know. If you don’t want to buy TSW4 then just don’t. We don’t need a proclamation in every thread.

There are multiple users on this forum right now posting that they are done who were doing the exact same last year when TSW3 was announced.

Only if you stop posting... this...

30 bucks for a few new minor features IS regardless of what you think ridiculous. ETS2 didn't do it, FS stepped away from it and even TSC hasn't done it.

He doesn't realize that DTG could've just charged for the 3 dlc's and done a free core release and they still would've made money regardless just like they do on TSC and that game is still going strong. Heck, they did that with tsw rush hour

Yet again, this dude completely and utterly misses the point.

You remind me of a dopey dog in a Disney cartoon, stood at the front door waiting for his master (DTG in this case) to come home from work, slavering at the prospect.

I don't understand what you are talking about? What is ETS2? What is FS? I know what TSC is but it does not appeal to me. I seem to understand you are talking about niche simulators for die hard train sim enthousiasts. I don't think TSW is aiming at that audience. They are looking for a wider audience. To me it looks that was always the intent for TSW.

The audience TSW is aiming at buys every year a new version of Fifa or F1 with minor improvements. On consoles we are used to paying for stuff

Mate, the problem is "we will fix everything in TSW 2", then "we will fix everything in TSW 3, just buy it", now "we will fix everything in TSW 4, just buy it", tomorrow "we will fix everything in TSW 5, just buy it".
DUDE, JUST BUY THE FREAKING PROMISES

A lot of people aren't complaining about wanting things for free, no one is expecting the devs to work for free it's about people like you and many others who blatantly vote with your wallets instead of seeing the lies, empty statements and broken promises from the company over the years. That's what a lot of people including myself aren't happy about, not the cost of the routes but the sheer cheek that we're expected to have to pay for stuff that should be part of the core update, but instead DTG puts it behind a paywall. There is NOTHING that was shown off in the stream that couldn't be in TSW3, there's no engine upgrade, there's no major changes which is stopping backwards compatibility. Going back to broken promises, what about the TSW2 preserved route updates that were meant to be out a few weeks after the release of TSW3? I remember Matt saying that the game couldn't be paused to take screenshots because it broke the game and the engine didn't like it, but funny enough it's now a "new" feature for TSW3.5...

While you're entitled to your opinion so are others even if you don't agree with them just remember that. The longer people keep voting with their wallets instead of using their common sense the longer this goes on for, but don't worry I'm sure you people are already saving up for the next release because don't forget TSW5 will be out September next year.

On the last bit. It's £40-£50. I don't need to "save" for it, certainly not a year in advance. It's not like it costs £1000. It just comes out of my monthly entertainment budget.

Judging by the posts, seems to not be the case. And other simulators, like the games I just mentioned.

Google is a thing, use it! What "appeal" to you isn't relevant here. What's relevant here is that all games I mentioned does not charge annually for small improvements and bugfixes.

Which is a major problem then. Is it true though? No, we wouldn't have complains from people I know are on consoles, we wouldn't have complains about lack of sales on consoles. We on PC can just resort to the uh, alternatives to Steam and Epic so it isn't really an issue on PC.

I see both sides of it.

The way I look at it, I am getting a new core update and 3 new routes for $53 Canadian... when the cost of just one TSW3 route is $53 Canadian. A good deal in my eyes. If these 3 routes released as a pack for TSW3 for $53 everyone would be screaming about how amazing the deal is. But they are getting released as a pack for $53 INCLUDING a new game and thats a "scam"?

I guess the issue is the game on its face seems like basically the same thing with updates. So people are asking why they seem to need to buy the game every year, especially if some things on the roadmap for TSW3 are now becoming TSW4.

All that said, if they released the core game as a free update for TSW3 owners, I am not sure if it would cost DTG that much money, since they'd still get the revenue from all of us buying DLC. They could probably even release the new routes at the same price they are asking for them now and get similar sales. And they'd save any time and energy from future TSW3 support, since there is no reason to even pretend to care about TSW3 if everyone who had it got the TSW4 upgrade.

If I were DTG I'd just make "Train Sim World" a game that gets a big update every year for free, but at the same time releases with a big DLC pack that costs about what they'd charge for a new game. I feel like they'd probably still make the same revenue and less people would think they are getting tricked (even though at the end of the day it costs the same).

Right, one could argue that 30 or 40 bucks (whatever it is) for 3 routes and updates to the core game is a good deal, BUT, I don't care for British and American stuff, I removed the ones I got from TSW3 last year permanently from my library.

Also, in this case, your pretty much forced to buy it if you want regular bugfixes (painfully needed) and new DLCs, which you once again pay for. That's why I bought TSW3, I wanted bugfixes and that damn Br420, I got neither, so I'm (rightfully) disappointed.

I get that and it will be different from person to person I don't have a problem paying for stuff. But again you're completely missing the point of everything else I mentioned and just going straight to the cost of it. Just proves my point that people will just vote with their wallets and basically bend over, instead of having common sense and look at what is going on.

What appeals to me is relevant because I'm not interested in those titles but interested in TSW. How is it relevant that those games I don't want have free upgrades? I don't want them so their pricing is irrelevant to me.

You on PC can result to more than what one store offers so I think it probably is a PC issue

It should be free updated like it should be for tsw2 and 3.
And your topic should be deleted.
All the people who take the defence of dtg once again for this tsw4 are simply fanboys
All the new features (lol what a joke) should be free and the new content paying.

It's £30-40 on entertainment. It's not an amount of money that I need to get stressed and angry over like a lot of people are. It's the price of one route.
Should TSW have a base version constantly updated like TSC Does? Yes, 100% the should and I wish they did.
Are DTG going to do that? Clearly not, as has been shown by the last three releases.
Am I bothered enough by the extremely minor bugs in something I spend hours playing weekly to not purchase TSW4, which includes two routes I really want (ECML, Antelope), as well as two locos I really want? No, because it's not going to change anything, and I'm not going to deprive myself of things I've wanted in TSW.

Charge for the routes. Lock all that half-baked Creator’s content behind a paywall and make the core update free, bringing everyone who own’s TSW3 up to TSW4 so they can continue purchasing content. And yes, I am demanding it’s free. I think I’ve paid for it hundreds of times over already frankly, and other than volumetric fog (which is likely a tick box in the editor) the rest of it is fixing what is broken already.

If they had done that this place would be glowing with positivity but of course that wouldn’t happen, because this is DTG and they seem to have an uncanny knack of hacking off their longest-term customers by expecting them to keep stumping up for the same stuff over and over again.

Also, BTW, the cost of entry into the "new" TSW is actually pretty low, especially if you want at least one of the routes.

The regional bundles can be had on day 1 for $39USD/29 GBP... which is exactly the same price as a TSW3 route.

So if you want ANY one of the routes, you can have it at the usual TSW3 DLC price and TSW4 core basically comes free with it.

This really isn't the "scam" people are making it out to be.

And, if you're interested in more than one of the routes, the deal only gets better. Standard edition has 3 routes for $49.99/39.99 GBP (without the pre-order discount), so basically $16 per route/13 GBP per route - a big discount compared to standard DLC pricing PLUS the new core game.

If DTG had completely erased TSW4 and just released these routes and locos as individual DLC for TSW3, it would have cost hundreds of dollars to buy it all individually.

DTG makes some weird choices in how they market this stuff but the math doesn't lie, its a good deal and the moaning doesn't add up.

And, as a final point, nobody is forcing anyone to buy this. If you like TSW3 keep playing TSW3.

I will turn that example around for you.

I accept a job for $1000, promising to finish said job in a year. I fail to do so, barely achieving quarter of the task. I ask my employer for $1000 again, promising I will finish the job this year for sure. Sadly, I fail again... What do I do? Oh, I know! I will just ask for $1000 again, promising this year it will be it, surely the job will be finished! Oh, how sad will my employer be when I still didn't manage to complete the original task 3 years later... But at least I can ask for $1000 a fourth time as well.

This is pretty much what DTG is doing. Still sound fair?

Pricing looks fair to me and I am happy to show my support for the unexpectedly large amount of improvements DTG are packing in to the TSW4 core. Feeling almost guilty for being unfashionably positive!

There are things I would like to see confirmed such as:
    - Will creators be able to clone and extend existing routes?
    - Will the new assist options include having safety systems on by default for expert players?
    - Will the audio finally be sorted for Xbox players?

For 1 & 3 there's a high chance of the answer being a no, I think 2 is based on what difficulty setting you choose if I understood correctly on the stream.

They had chance to cut them self off from tsw2/tsw3 infamy... but no they make 4 instead of core update and monetization of 3 new routes... I sense a deep deep greed inside this company.

Every single game gets free updates along its development time and DTG is earning enough through dlcs to be able to invest into features for the base game in general. This post just shows how desperate the Train Sim Community is as there’s no competition and I get it. But it takes no rational person to ever justify them abandoning TSW3 for some undo button in the livery editor.
TSW3 will be abandoned and if anyone is interested in any future dlcs they are forced to buy Train Sim World again. That’s the issue.

When people misinterpret why people may be frustrated with something, it's not as if they are just gonna be silent you know. The OP thought people were acting entitled when that wasn't the case whatsoever

I don't know yet if I'll buy it. I probably will, because I'm a damn completionist and that will be the death of me.
But regardless of what you think of the product, they were forthcoming about its features and forthcoming about its price. Everyone's going to get exactly what they paid for. So I don't understand the whining, or, for that matter, the anti-whining. It is what it is.

Interesting how different people's options will stir up a riot on these forums. But it seems like TSW4 is the breaking point that may split the forums in 2.

im under the impression that’s just the case for TSW3 and potentially new dlc like the 232 for RSN is till coming for example or 420 for Munich in TSW4

Literally every other simulator game offers regular and free core updates. It’s not entitlement, it’s getting what you paid for. I don’t know about console players, but PC players won’t tolerate this EA model of charging for yearly updates. ETS2 and ATS charge for DLC, but release core updates for free every few months. MSFS do something similar and have provided tons of free content on top of 10+ massive core game updates all at zero additional cost. I don’t want TSW to become like FIFA. If I paid $50 for TSW3 last year, under no circumstances should the game be abandoned and obsolete less than a year later.

For one part Maik hasn’t confirmed that the 420 or 232 isn’t coming to TSW (that I’ve heard) now (meaning still coming) and hasn’t changed their home route neither.

until otherwise announced content will still be arriving on the older routes, and whether new content does depends on that content which I believe it will if it’s appropriate.

This would seem to affect players who don’t buy DLC. If you think of each version of TSW as a bundle of three routes with a core upgrade thrown in, it makes sense and is priced fairly. But if you don’t want the new routes, I can see why you would feel left out.

reading between the lines with the new route editor, I get a sense that the bug fixes and route updates will be outsourced to modders providing free labor. It worked great for Skyrim.

Pretty much this. We already have folks here saying "stop complaining about the bugs, you can now fix them yourself!". It's ridiculous how low DTG has set the bar, and some people apparently are enjoying it.

    I don’t understand something

I look at this like it’s a new dlc. Forget tsw4 and everything else besides the new routes and locos

A route is $40 and a loco is $15. For that price I can get three routes and two locos with the deluxe edition.

doesn’t that make what you suggest should be free actually free when you think about it?

it sounds like from your perspective your being asked to pay $55 for the stuff you think should be free but then you also get the routes and locos.

is it your point that you don’t want the routes and locos and you should get tsw4 core changes for free and pay for the 2.0 stuff?

What is maddening is that this mess is solely a function of marketing, pricing, and packaging and not the actual product (which looks pretty good).
If they upgraded the core for free and offered the bundled routes and locos for $60 USD, it would be an excellent value.
The way they’re going about it instead seems destined to alienate players. I can’t imagine how they capture more revenue by requiring a paid upgrade rather than simply offering the bundled DLC. I suspect they are not confident that enough people will be attracted to the new suite of routes. (Voralberg looks cool but I could frankly take or leave the others).

This is what I don’t understand isn’t this essentially a dlc pack for $60 disguised as a core upgrade. I guess they’re hoping the fan base will perceive that and go to tsw4. I think it’s the folks who don’t want the dlc pack that are the loudest

On one hand I can see why people are annoyed as they will be shut out of new content without buying a TSW4 route, but then I also don’t understand why some people think everything should be free… With every route that gets released there are people asking ‘will it cost money’.

I’ll give ya an example … I got this game I play on my phone. One of those free games with micro transactions I’m sure you’re familiar. I get periodic updates with core improvements or free. What they want is the micro transaction.

from that point of view I can see the point.

I think dtg wants the opposite they want you to buy the trains and tsw4 comes along for the ride.

now the people who don’t want the new trains are saying why should I pay for something I don’t need in order to potentially buy something I may or may not want before we go through this again next year.

that’s where the noise is coming from.

You are missing the point. A new game means you get more media coverage. You get a place in the "new" section of stores. New people will notice. The higher the number the game has the more popular it seems to new users. If it survived 3 versions there has to be something about that game. Let's check it out and before you know it you are a "well known" on the DTG forums. :D

I bought cites skylines when it came out and all the dlc and for close to ten years got updates to the core game for free and good dlc to boot .
I will buy Cites skylines 2 when it comes out because it going above and beyond what the first game was.
Same with a lot of paradox studio content.

I uninstalled TSW today because they still have not fixed any the stuff they said they were going to fix going back to tsw2, all future fixes are now locked behind yet another pay wall.
Steam Locos still are half functional and are bugged out even with TSW3 updates.
Imagine if a flight sim released ww2 era planes that you could not adjust the air/fuel mixture or your prop angle.
they would be laughed out of the market.
oh ya DTG did try a flight sim and did get laughed out of the market.

I bought TSW2 early July 2022 and got like one update for it before I found out I bought abandon ware. who would have thunk they would announce and release a new game in less then 3 months. A year later here we are again.

I bought TSW3 via steam key resellers cause i was not going to pay 50 bucks to get what i already bought fixed. I waited 6 months for DTG to release those TSW2 fixes they kept on spewing bs like "we are waiting for the appropriate launch window" like they where trying to launch a rocket instead of just updating their broken game.
I could not run peninsula corridor with out crashing, SOS did not crash but there is plenty issues with it. It still behaves nothing like a actual steam loco.
Instead of fixing the constant blow out value going they turned the volume down. That's the DTG way to fix stuff.

I don't want free stuff. I want the stuff paid for fixed and future fixes not locked behind pay walls.

I just bought American truck simulator and all its dlc because that company cares and releases quality content, continually updates the base game and does not lock fixes and future content behind pay walls.
