Just to avoid confusion. A bundle on Steam doesn't have a fixed price. Its pricing is based upon which things from the bundle you already own. A package on Steam has a fixed price. Even if you already own some things from the package, you'll still pay the same price as someone who owns nothing. The loco add-ons bundles 1 and 2 are packages, not bundles, on Steam. Naming them "bundles" could cause confusion.
To me the more obvious solution would be to just make all the bundles, well, bundles. I see no good reason why anyone should have to pay full price for a bundles which they already own parts of.
Agreed, that'd be best for the customers, but there's probably some marketing strategy behind this particular choice.
It is quite odd... Decided to buy MML after all. Standalone price £29.99. Bundle price with items I already own £24.29. Go figure... Works out cheaper than the pre increase prices. Guess which one I plumped for (wasn't bothered about the ROG or RHTT bundle which was @£33).
Nothing odd about it. I consider it a sort of loyalty-bonus for long-term customers who've already bought a fair bit of DLC. Quite a few games use Steam bundles and I'm quite happy they do. Personally I think DTG should use them more, but that's not the point of this topic.
Oh don't misunderstand, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth or pass up a bargain, but it would have been so easy to overlook the discount and pay full price which I guess is my point.
Really? Because at my steam store page for MML there's 3 green-colored buttons with price tags next to them, neatly alligned, and as a long-term Steam-customer that green-colored button immediately catches my eye. But well, after quite a few years of using Steam, I kinda know where to look and what to pay attention to. I wouldn't really call it 'easy to overlook' though. No clue how Steam could make it more clear.
What is harder to overlook though, is that when purchasing the MML Enhancement Bundle with the two extra locos, you'd not be getting any extra discount on the Loco Add-on bundles (which are packages!). If you want them all, purchasing the Loco Add-on bundles (which are packages!) first, then buying the MML Enhancement Bundle, is probably cheaper than the other way around. But I kinda think it's reasonable to expect customers to do a little research before making a purchase.
That's only on the DLC page though. The main game page looks like this: The boxes look identical in their form, but these are the packages that receive no discounts for stuff you already own. The only visual difference is the pictures of the bundled items aren't there, and the blue flash that says "complete your collection", as well as the word "package" rather than "bundle" Some of the "bundles" are on the main page, but the "packages" are presented first, and there's not really enough of a visual difference between them for me:
