I'm running TSW2 on 4K using a very strong 3080ti GPU on a 120Hz monitor, but still can't eliminate stuttering. I've tried most different settings, to no avail. Although the graphics are beautifully clear, the stuttering is a little annoying. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Here are basic settings I have made: Nvidia Control Panel: Frames capped to 95 FPS, G-sync and V-Sync activated and Low Latency Mode set to "ON" In-game settings: Most settings on Ultra High, with Shadows on Medium. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Systems fine. It’s likely tiles loading and unloading route. It’s always been like it but more noticeable on some routes. You’ll find if you run the game on absolute lowest settings it still does it.
I also have a pretty decent system, i7 10700k, RTX 3080, 32GB, 1TB SSD. Mainly for a couple of other games I play in VR. The GPU doesn't even break a sweat on TSW2. I get stuttering on every route I play, it's as if the game 'pauses' for half a second or so then resumes. Happens a lot.
Unfortunatly stutters are part of the game, and even on high end systems they are present. Some routes, maybe those with more assets, are more exposed to them and i found that its more à problem at high speeds than on slow trains. I fear that its linked to the engine behind TSW and so there is not that much we can do. A good cpu and Ssd will help without removing them.
i recommend nvidia inspector to change settings which are not avaible through the nvidia default control panel. which also helps is to set maximum pre renderes frames to = 2 or 3 cap the fps to 60 through the default control panel from nvidia !
If you listen to any of Digital Foundry's YouTube videos, Unreal4's stutters are a common observed issue for most U4 based games, whatever the spec of machine. I reduced stuttering a lot following the 'engine.ini' tweaks suggested on this forum by geloxo, see here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...-engine-ini-optimizations-for-ue-v4-26.50311/
I use a G-Sync monitor and this is the only sim that I get Stutter. I mainly do Sim Racing: AMS2, F1, Raceroom and absolutely smooth in 4K at 120Hz. Thanks for sharing this. I'll check it out.
This thread has a load of good info and tweaks that can be made. But the summary is a fix/optimisation is required from DTG to fix the stuttering. On a Live stream from about 2 months back, Matt responded to a question I put to them in chat. They know the issue and they were looking at it along with other optimisations. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...-engine-ini-optimizations-for-ue-v4-26.50311/
Here's the most useful fix by and large for all modern games I play, for reference I have a 3080 and 6700k with 16GB of RAM, and still get microstutters in DX12 games from TSW to Metro Exodus. The fix I found was from this Youtube video, and it seems to help a ton! You can ignore the video's title, I found this to apply to all games I play but with most noticeable differences with DX12 games. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/ LyKsYImA7yo Note: Embed doesn't seem to be working properly, just copy paste the YT link without the space after the backslash
This fix requires messing with the system timer using bcdedit (useplatformtick). I'm not brave enough to try it! There's a thread on Guru3D that broadly inclines to the view that it's not necessary on modern systems (and may be counter-productive).
Ok I tried it, I think the stuttering was just as bad or worse and lower FPS but I felt it was smoother for some reason.
