Suggestions for more gameplay In the new DLC Gossup Line, parts of the gameplay have been added in two scenarios. So you could mime a conductor as well as take photos for a competition. In other scenarios, a train is split or transferred to the depot. Or refueled and put together. There are already some interactions that you can fall back on. Otherwise you only have the possibility to collect Collectives and that doesn't appeal to everyone. I think these side quests are underrated. Hence my suggestion: There could be a maintenance job for the railway employee on each route. This is based on the timetable and the tasks are random. It would then look like this: GWE Reading 15:45. Maintenance work needs to be carried out between Reading and Paddington. Station 1: Repair ticket machines. Station 2: Repair lighting. Train station 4: Bring the train to the depot because the driver has failed. Station 6-8: Drive as a passenger. Station 9 to the end: Assist the conductor. and much more... I think it would be a good idea if these tasks were randomly linked to some kind of schedule so that you could work through them day and night. For this it would be enough to create the 10 scripts for the tasks and a routine for the random service. Basically no big deal. What do you think? And what think you DTG Matt
I hate the idea personally. For me DTG need to concentrate on the basics and improve the driving experience rather than spending resources adding gimmicks like these
This. If we ever get to the point where all the bugs are quashed, every route and every era people want are represented in the game then maybe it will be time to look at a wider experience. However it also needs to be seated in realism. Take Glossop - acting as Guard is fair enough and on a par with selling tickets in OMSI2 or Fernbus/The Bus. Bring it on. However jumping out the cab at stations en route to take pictures is most definitely not realistic. If I want to see any gameplay enhancement it would be randomisation - the odd signal failure or route to an alternative line due to a track defect or other issue.
I agree that there is an issue with a having a single person driving trains as well as doing other tasks on the railway. However this can be easily fixed with having a separate gamemode where you get to play as a maintenance guy. For example you would spawn on foot on an existing route with AI trains running around similar to how it works now but you couldn't take over any service. Instead, you would start with a report saying something like "the green light on signal P8 is burned up". With that, you would walk to the signal (which would be modified in the game to be climbable and openable), find and replace the green light bulb and ask the dispatcher to try and set the light. If it works, you just close the thing and call it done. That's just an example of a really basic task. Then there's of course regular maintenance where you go around every single device in a particular area and perform tasks on them.
